16520 SS Daytona Old model vs. 116520 SS Daytona new model.
Both only comes in White Dial. Okie guys and gals. Which one would you favor more if priced were the same? Thanks for looking.

In my opinion the inhouse Rolex 4130 movement is superior to the modified Zenith El Primero 4030 and easier to service.

I like the larger lume and thicker hands of the 116520, but I like the symetry of the subdial placement of the 16520.

Resale prices of 16520 are generally higher than that of a comparable 116520.

First before 2000 Rolex had never made a chronograph movement they mainly used movements from ETA Valjoux.
So Rolex wanted a automatic chronograph so they had a deal with Zenith around 1988 to have the El-Primo ebauche supplied to them.Now Rolex modified, some say down graded the movement from 36000 BPH down to 28.800 BPH to fit in with there movements and 5 year service time intervals.And then when Zenith could not, or would not supply Rolex with enough bare ebauche movements for the Daytona,Rolex had to start to develop there very first chronograph movement and in 2000 the Cal. 4130 was born.

Now it costs a lot of money to develop and tool up to make a completely new movement.Thats one reason that many manufactures use movements from ETA Valjoux.But owing to the strangle hold that ETA has on most of the Swiss watch industry and the cut off supply scheduled for 2010.Quite a few manufactures are now making there own in-house movements and now escapement parts like hairsprings etc . IMHO the Zenith powered ones will always be a premium price over the in-house powered ones but both very fine chronograph movements.Myself not a huge fan of the modern Daytona but prefer the Zenith dial lay out over the in-house.

I think the black subdails on the white face 16520 makes all the difference and makes it look more classy than the silver ones on the 116520. To me, that was a downgrade and makes the watch a tad too bling compared to the 16520 IMHO.

I have both. A SS White Dial Modern Daytona and a SS Black Dial Zenith Daytona.

Of the two I wear only the White and it is much more easy to read with the fat hands. However the Black Dial Zenith is the one I would want and keep as I feel that the SS Zenith Daytonas will only increase in value over the years.

Owning a 116520 ( 2004 ) I still would like to get my hands on a 16520 . Just hoping to pick one up cheap enough so I can justify having "both" modern SS Daytona . I guess a Valjoux powered 62XX series is still out of my budget at the moment . Not that I consider them way over priced ... it's only me lacking the funds .

For me easily the 16520. Much nicer sub dials, just like the overall look better. I have thought of selling my 116520 to help purchase one.

I would go with the Zenith. I the tri-compax lay out.

I know most will say the 4130 is better, but the Zeniths are going up in value.

This analysis is spot on IMO....I would go for the zenith for greater rarity (increasing value) and the symmetry described.
