Stem sticks when trying to change time

HI all. I have a Rolex DJ about 5 years old (already serviced this year by Rolex NY this year). When I pull out the stem to wind it, its fine but when I pull it out further to try and set the time hands, it wont move. Sometimes it does, but most times it doesnt. Is there some oil or WD 40 I can spray the stem with that is safe, or does it have to go back to Rolex? Thanks. -Bob.

I would send it back to Rolex NY as it's probably still under the service warranty. I would definitely not spray it will WD 40. It might dissolve the seals.

Try turning the stem the opposite way of winding a small amount before pulling the stem out further.

There are a few gears and detents that need to slip and slide around to disengage the hands from the main handstack gears and into setting position..

You need to pull the stem out with some authority, although not recklessly... and sometimes, back in and out again to ensure it all aligns properly..

Sometimes it's just technique...
