so i got one of those special offers for a SS Daytona today....

cut a long story short, went to one of the ADs on Old Bond st after the auction this afternoon to try on a YG GMTIIC 50th and the WG blue Sub.....

one thing lead to another and we talked about the Daytona waiting list, and i asked if i should join but was told they will not take anymore names......

HOWEVER, she said... If you buy either one of these pieces, i will be able to arrange a SS Daytona for you.....

so yeah, its only of those "special treatments" i have been reading about in the past.

so i told her i will think about it.

ps - there are still many Daytonas at grey dealers at Burlington.....

Those waiting lists are BS. It's all who you know or how much you spend there. They all have some sitting in the back I'm sure.

I got the same offer at a US AD a month or so ago, they had an SS Daytona in the safe for immediate sale but only if I bought another Rolex too.

There are plenty of SS Daytona on the net if you look around. No need to con you to buy another Rolex before you can get your hands on a Daytona. That's not special treatment in my book, that's a little con game they are playing with us Rolex buyers....IMO.

That is pathetic. That kind of "deal" is just the reason why I do not buy from ADs anymore. I'm not smitten over the Daytona yet but I've seen plenty of BNIB ones show up on the for sale section here by DavidSW and others. If I ever get the bug, I know just where I am going to get one.

All BS! At the Rolex boutique in Toronto they have a handful of them in the display cases with all of the other oysters. I asked the saleswoman if their was a waiting list and she laughed, she said whoever has the cash in hand gets it. She also stated that it's silly that the other ads do this waiting list crap.

Just goes to show how the AD's here in the US control the SS Daytona market to some extent!

yeah... I knew exactly what was going on, that's why I kept on playing the game with them.
Bear in mind the supply of SS Daytonss in the UK is obvious abit less than the US.

I do want to buy another rolex though, but not a SS Daytona this time and for some reason I'm not a huge fan of it.

Just thought I'd let you guys know they are still playing this type of "game" these days......

Which boutique are you refering to? RDV, if so I recall speaking to a salesperson there and she wanted money up front in order to be put on a so called waiting list in getting a Daytona.

As far as a waiting list is concerned, it has all but fanished compliments of the economic conditions. Supply of the S/S Daytona finally caught up to demand and is most likely gone the other way. I see more S/S Daytonas available in local AD's.

I saw a gray market dealer on the net that had one for almost $1,000 over list. I also saw a news article that said while electronics are selling well for Christmas luxury item sales are way down.

They will always try to play that game and who can blame them. If you owned the business, why not.

I got the offer now from my AD. I've bought two Rolex from them and jewelry for the misses. Last time I went they said they had something special in the back for me for being a good customer. I said, if it's a Daytona, I'm not interested. They were a bit surprised!

hahaha... Good one Mik.

I sort of mentioned something similar that I probably won't be interested if there are no green details on the daytona you are offering..... She knows I love green detailed rolexes :-)

C'est la vie!

The Daytona in steel, is still THE catch for the UK Rolex AD's and they have to try to make what they can from them.

However, they are now beginning to struggle somewhat as the market in the UK is decreasing for new watches, even the Daytona.

But they are still attempting to make as much profit/sales as possible and really who can blame them for their attitude.

At least the days of the "brown envelope with up to 2k in used notes" are now gone.

All this SS Daytona hype is ridiculous.

People, get a TT Daytona at a discount which not only looks better and has an actual precious metal in it but is also readily available at ADs. If Rolex and ADs want to play this game let them. The only ones benefitting are Grey dealers and unscrupulous ADs trying to get an additional sale on the back of the hype.

I went to St. Marteen and got that "you can't buy a Daytona without buying a SS/gold, YG, or WG watch". My response +... I left.. sadly I ready to buy if they could match a TRF BNIB price which isn't difficult.

In the end I bought one from Mosco.

Wow.. An old thread came back to life?

Update - after my early attempt, I have forgotten about a SS Daytona and moved on. Came Feb 2010 and decided that I "need" a white one, so called my AD and got on their list. Got a call in July and picked it up.
Not back for about 6 months work.
