I think you will notice such types of comments for any comparison between any watch. I noticed similar comments - all well intentioned - when I was mulling over the DSSD. Some thought it look like a hockey puck whilst others thought it looked great...
The reality, is that there are soooo many angles for comparsion. I bet if you did a comparative review even WITHIN the range of Daytona's, you would still get ppl commenting that one is better/worse than the other. Don't lose any sleep over it mate, its your choice...and its your watch... It goes to prove a point here, that I'm chiming into this debate even though I have NEVER worn a Daytona. My comment could be entirely different when I put one on for the first time. Cheers. |

What narrow minded childish nonsense.
There are many members on here who do not have one in their collection, yet have more expensive answers. It would be my reccomendation that you keep inflammatory comments like that to yourself. |

The price is coming down for used Daytonas. A friend of mine has started buying and selling watches recently. He bought a SS white face Daytona yesterday with all box and papers (2002) for £4000!

I disagree. For some of us, the price of the watch isn't the issue, its more that it just doesn't do anything for me. I posted this here 3 years ago, and it pretty much sums up my perspective:
Daytona vs YachtMaster -------------------------------------------------------------------------- I tried on a white face Daytona lat my AD last week, and a black face a couple of months ago. What they did for me was.............nothing. Just a watch with no date feature. The hype is that they're made of Unobtainium. Then I tried on the platinum YM again and it didn't sing to me, it was the full blown Vienna Boys' Choir. I LOVE that watch!!! If I could find an even trade for my TT black Sub I'd do it in a heartbeat. So, do I hate the SS Daytona? No, I'm indifferent, it doesn't do it for me. Is it the price? As far as being able to afford one or not, put this in perspective. I recently paid $4,000 for a restoration of a 1908 W&D pendant watch.

chronograph movement and sub dials are not for every one and that does not make them a hater of DAYTONA.

Dont hate any watch but not a fan of the modern Daytona now say the modern movement dial style, and bezel of my 6263.Then perhaps I could get excited with the modern S.steel Daytona. And personality speaking just cannot see what all the hype is over the S.steel models when IMHO the TT is a far nicer looking watch.

I have noticed a tendency for people to bag on the SS Daytonas that I don't seem to see them doing with other models in the lineup. There are models in the linup which I really dislike and if given one would immediately flip, but you won't find me in threads about these watches telling people how ugly and/or overpriced they are.
Not sure what the motiviation is, but to each his own...personally, I try to follow the "If you don't have anything nice to say.." dictum when it comes to that sort of thing, but some people just love to stir up the pot I reckon. Anyway, enjoy your Daytona. Illegitimis non Carborundum as they say!

Pretty much the only was I'll buy one is if they go historic (padi) and big (mosco).
a 42 mm (give space on the dial) with a black bezel (b/c that just looks good).

My wife and I was looking at some watches the other day (on the net). She's not as fanatic as I am, but she likes watches that for sure and the other day she asked me if we could have a look at some Rolex's. (I guess her Tudor is telling her that it needs a friend)
It didn't take long before she asked; "what model is that?" And sure thing, she pointed right at a Daytona with a white dial. I wasn't that surprised really, because in my opinion, she really has good taste - but I didn't bother to tell her the price, I just replied with "yeah, you have expensive taste, that we already knew..." Earlier today during lunch, we walked by the big Rolex AD here in town, and they had 2 Daytona's on display in their window (one had the white dial). "That is one nice looking watch" - my wife said again... I don't know what she is hinting? Cheers, Joe

If you can admire the craftsmanship of a fine tool, then you can admire the craftsmanship of a fine watch..
The Daytona has that craftsmanship in the details used in their one-of-a-kind movement, traditional sub seconds at 6, screw locks for the pushers (which are not really necessary), Triplock crown, and the original sleek and stylish billet clasp.. It is an excellently crafted watch... like it's looks or not.

I'm new to the site, but been here long enough to say I have'nt seen any posts exhibit any more hatred towards the Dayton than other models. As for like/dislike and price, I see the same difference of opinions in Omega forums as here. The Speedmaster is double the price of Seamaster and Constellation models, but wow its a lot more watch for those into the techno models, same for the Daytona. Pricing will always settle into into a range that we are willing to pay for something.
