Submariner Willed to a Watch Killer
I am new to the forum and a longtime Rolex owner.
In making my will a very close and long time friend will receive my Submariner at my demise. Now I find out that she cannot wear watches because of her make up she says that the watches will die after a couple days. I want her to be able to wear the watch because she is a very good friend . My questions are 1. What condition does a person have that they cannot wear watches? 2. Is there anything that I can have done to the watch that keep her from killing the watch. I did neglect to tell you that the watch is a Stainless Steel Submariner 1991 vintage. Thanks Teddy |

Welcome to TRF!
I believe the condition is called overactive imagination. Technically, in more medical terms it is called BS syndrome. Mark |

Hi Teddy, welcome aboard!
I've heard of instances where a person has put on battery operated quartz watches which became non-functional shortly thereafter, but have never heard of a case where an automatic mechanical watch quit. Are you sure she isn't referring to quartz watches?

No doubt, this will put in my candidacy for the "Off His Rocker" award, but I can state with certainty that some people cannot wear watches. I have a friend who has tried every sort of watch, and they all die within a few days. She doesn't do anything to them, in an active sense. I have never loaned her my Sub to see if it can survive.
People like that often have other abilities, such as the ability to boil water by concentrating on it, for lack of a better description. Now, call me a nut if you like, but let me tell you this story. I have a 94 Mercedes, and I locked the keys in the car, including the spare. Duh, yeah; but that's what happened. I called my friend and asked her if she could unlock it. She did, from a mile away. Now, take that for what you can make of it, but I know what happened. There's no way to open a locked Merc without doing damage to it, unless you have the key. And she cannot wear a watch. Cell phones also have a very limited life in her possession. None of this does she boast of; in fact, it makes her extremely uncomfortable. But I think you should believe your friend.

Maybe leave her the old Timex, as she seems to dislike watches with some sort of a 'mad passion.' And let that Rollie go to a more..errr...watch-friendly home!?! : cheers:

I have heard of this situation before. It was like the person had a high level of magnetism in their blood/body. It had stopped many watches.
So his son bought him a Rolex Milgauss (back in 1980). Rolex has reintroduced the Milguass today and you can get current models for around the price of your submariner. However, the Submariner is really quite a strong watch and so it might just be that your Submariner will survive.......I don't know for sure. Anyway, what now????

My 88 year old aunt is a watch killer be it quartz or mechanical dead with in 2 hours.I went to the Museaum of science and Industry in Tampa and on the 2nd floor they had a machine that measures the electrical energy that runs through your body,I put my hands on the machine and it registered .5milliamps then my 7 year old daughter put hers on and pegged the scale so people all have different energy running through their body which I 'm sure has some effect on mechanical or electro mechanical devices I have seen it first hand with my aunt. My friend told me his story once how he opened his car without remote and key. When he locked his key and remote inside, called his wife to call him on his cell phone. As the cell phone bell rang, he kept the cell phone near the key outlet on the door, after a few seconds, it opened the door.
He told me that remote and the cell phone have the similar frequencies and works to open the door. May be some one in trouble can use this trick. Jaswant Kamboj |

well, thank goodness i'm not a watch killer, or what would i do for a hobby? on a more serious note, i'd really have to see this phenomenon in person to be made a believer.
