I only need it regulated!!
My two year old gold Day/Date needs to be reregulated as it is running a little fast. The AD near my home does not do work on Rolexes, but sends them out for service at the Rolex Service center. They tell me that if they send it out, I'll need to get a complete cleaning/inspection along with the regulation. This will cost about $500!
I checked with an independent watchmaker in St. Louis, and he too will not do just a watch regulation without a complete service.....for about $300 - $400. All I really need on a Rolex this new, is just for it to be re-regulated, I think. I'm not that keen on shipping my watch to some out-of-state watchmaker, so I'm asking if any forum members know of a reputable watchmaker in the St. Louis area, or in say a 300 mile radius of St. Louis (Chicago and Kansas City included), where I can get the regulation of my watch done while I wait. I'd just get the yellow pages out, and start calling around. Ask them if their watchmaker can work on Rolex watches, and if they have the equipment and know-how to do so. Most good jewelery stores work on them all the time. If you find one you like, go down and interrview the person who will do the work. They might actually want your business.

Grey market watch....no Rolex warranty and the seller's warranty would require me to ship the watch to Florida for service.....I don't want to let the watch out of my possession for shipping.
I've looked in the St. Louis yellow pages for watchmakers. There is only one that indicates that he services watches in his own workshop. That is the one I called who will only do a complete service and not just the regulation of the watch. Does anyone know of a trusted watchmaker in Kansas City or Chicago (or anywhere inbetween) that can regulate my watch while I wait? If need be, I'd be willing to drive there to get my watch serviced. If you don't mind going to Wichita...
Saul,
Hello! I'm new to the forum. Perhaps I can help. If you are willing to take a trip down the Kansas Turnpike, I can think of a couple of people in Wichita(where I used to live) who might be able to assist you. First: Well, honestly-I have forgotten the gentleman's name, but he is the resident Rolex-trained watchmaker for Randy Cooper's, who is an official Rolex dealer. (316)634-1799. I know he works on Rolexes right there in the shop, and he always treated me well. Battery changes for my quartz watches, and he regulated the one automatic I owned at the time. I enjoyed talking watches with him on numerous occasions. A good time to catch him in the store seemed to be after about 1:00 pm. Wichita has 2 Rolex dealers; the other is Barrier's. Matt, their watchmaker is also very, very good, and a real nice guy, too. He wears an Omega Speedmaster, but I wouldn't hold that against him! Same willingness to help and great attitude. I believe he is Rolex-trained, as well.(316) 684-5169. One caveat: I moved from the Air Capitol from about 18 months ago, so of course, I would call first! Hope this is helpful. Speaking of Seamasters, if you do go to the Wichita area-take a side trip up to Hutchinson to the Cosmosphere, where among all the space program artifacts, V-2 and V-1 rockets, jet planes hung upside down in the lobby and such-you can also see the World's Largest Speedmaster! Good luck! -Tim (Buggadad) |

A regulation is a pretty simple operation..
I would check around with other AD's who have a watchmaker on staff... They wouldn't need to send it anywhere and regulate in for you in a couple of days (you do want it done properly)...

Thanks, Tim, "Poom" and "Tools".
Seems like a car trip to Wichita is in my future. I'll call them on Monday. Thanks, again, for your input. Saul Last edited by DoctorSaul; 22 March 2010 at 04:58 AM.. Reason: corrected typo |

Good suggestions!
A couple of caveats
I too am a recent Wichita transplant Barriers is closed (bankruptcy) Keith (coopers watchmaker) is a friend of mine I recommend calling him first to verify he can regulate it on the spot. He may expect you to leave it. In Kansas City you might try Tivol on the Country Club, or Meirottos in North Kansas City as both have in-house watchmakers. Regards Quote:

I just heard this but don't know if it is true.
If they open, they have to do the usual changing of gaskets or service (pressure testing?) if that's the word, to guaranty water resistant. Somebody correct me if I am wrong. |

Some AD's have Rolex showes a couple of times a year. I went to one where a Rolex employee inspects your watch for free. I had mine done and he regulated it for free. It took about 15 seconds to do this.
