Rolex Easily Scratched?

I have an older style SD and I've noticed that the polished surfaces especially are easily scratched. I usually wipe it down with a micro fiber about once a week after a cleaning with a mild liquid soap and I've noticed swirlies on the polished areas. Not from wear but in random places. My watch is under my shirt cuff pretty much 99% of the time.

Today a ran the micro fiber cloth over a polished surface and I saw very faint hairline scratches immediately (i tilt the surface at various angles under bright light). I know I am being particularly anal about this but I wipe down my IWC with the same cloth and see no faint hairlines. Has anyone noticed this? Is this the difference between 904 and 316?

It's just metal, so it's inevitably going to get scratches. Gives it character IMO.

Hey Stat...even a polishing cloth will give your watch minor swirls..because dust accumulate on the cloth..with constant rubbing it will build up those swirls...Even your finger can create swirls on the watch...There is nothing you can really do...Rolex uses a special polishing wheel and brush to create that mirror finish...I advice you..Use a polishing cloth and rub it lightly...for heavy dirt just wash it with luke warm water and soap..I blow dry watch sometimes and use cotton balls to wipe it dry...hehehehe

Thanks for replying to my post. I just never saw this on my Portuguese. I used the same cloth. Never seemed to scratch so easily.

The inside bit of the snap on a golf glove will scratch this mirror finish as well.

Best to just ignore it.

Thanks for everyones replies. I'm not too worried abou the scratches. I was just more curious to see if anyone else noticed this. The Rolex defintely seems to scratch much easier on polished surfaces compared to my IWC. I took a microfiber cloth and ran it over a polished area on my Rolex and immediately saw a faint hairline. I've been wiping down my IWC the same way and have never experienced this. Thanks again!

The only time i touch mine is in the shower when wet....lube it up with soap...then rinse real good. Take off and pat dry when out of the shower.

If you rub it....it will scratch :)
