Arbutus Ny?
She saw the watch she wanted on Ebay and I bought it. When it arrived, it looked impressively presented in its box and she took it out and tried to get it on her wrist. I made the adjustment to the last hole on the leather bracelet strap and she couldn't even fasten the clasp over. The maximum size would fit a wrist diameter of 15cm or less. They didn't tell us that it was for a female of anorexic proportions. I examined it with my loupe and found it a small five letter word 'China' on the lug. The site that sells the watches here in Australia give all the signs that the watch company is based in NYC and therefore old souls like me and her thought that it would have been made in the good old USA!
WRONG I was not successful in getting the seller to accept the watch back. He said it wasn't their policy and that was that. My questions for the forum is has anyone heard of ARBUTUS and are they made in the USA? Is the watch I've got a Chinese replica of the real thing? It is a self winding regulator with a glass case showing the movement. The dial is nice, the rectangular case is a bit on the thick side. She's dead set on a rectagular case. Cartier is out of my league. Any ideas guys? Tardis |

Sorry, Tardis, never ever heard of Arbutus, but have heard of e-bay. That place is riddled with snivelling scumbags and I wouldn't buy a f***king pin from those ba$tards!!
Sorry about what you've gone through, but perhaps some of the other fellas here could help you. My only advice to you is stay as far away from e-bay as possible. That place has reached a pitiful situation wherein you can't even trust the sellers you know any longer. JJ

Sorry, Tardis, never heard of Arbutus. But I would be skeptical of it. Did you at least pay with a credit card. If so, you should be able to dispute the charge.
And JJ, I understand your concern, but there really are some decent people on e-Bay. You just have to look carefully. I just bought a Nikon 60 mm Macro lens for my D70 and it works great. The seller even threw in 4 filters and it still cost me about 50% of retail. When I have some time, I'll try to take some decent closeups of my watches to replace the pics I currently have, which are not that good.

Yes would agree with Ed they are not all crooks on Ebay as for the Arbutus
watches seen them on the bay.Don't know much about them, but going on the average prices.Would have thought they would be Chinese movements or the Miyota movement if you was lucky,if Miyota quite a robust long lasting movement.
