Daytona tidbit from DC-area AD

I stopped by a Washington, DC-area AD and he volunteered to me that if I wanted a SS Daytona in black or white face, he could get me one. He said his chain had a "glut" of them internally and folks that had bought a watch or two from his store could get one without a problem.

Has anyone heard similar chatter from their AD? This struck me as something odd to volunteer, given I was looking at a SS Sub for my collection. Given what I've read here, I'm waiting for the ceramic bezel.

Assuming you mean Liljenquist.

I can't even bear to stop in that place anymore. I might as well talk to the cashier at The Gap about watches.

Torneau does this too... "if you become a customer, a solid buyer, I am sure I can get you the SS Daytona". May be true, may not...but it's also a ploy to get you putting down your money for that Sub or any other watch you are looking at.
Trust me, I don't sell watches but I sell for a living - if there were a "glut" of them in a safe somewhere, if you cam in wanting to lay down $10,000 on one - they would pull it out and sell it. Not the BS, you must buy these two watches, solve this riddle, donate your time to charity and adopt a pet before we sell it to you. LOL
If you are interested, I would call their bluff and ask to see them.

Good luck and keep us posted.

-Pete

I really hate this attitude some ADs have towards Daytonas - I know for a fact the market has been hit badly in the US, and the last thing they should be doing is effectively blackmailing clients into buying more watches to get hold of a Daytona :

I agree re: Lillenquist. I won't buy anything from that store. When I bought my first Rolex, I shopped around and ended up pitting Lillenquist & the other Rolex place in Tysons 1 against each other...turns out it's the same company, but different names. The person I dealt with was a douche, whined about his "manager" saying something, etc.

Come to Canada, you can pretty much walk into an AD in my city and pick one up right away, slight discount even for the black dial in one dealer!

Oh yes, and non are reserved for "special" customers!

I tend to buy what this particular AD said, given my history with them. I've purchased a SS Daytona from this particular store already (along w/ ~5 other Rolexes). They don't come across them often so when they do, they take care of their good customers first. He said given my history, he could get me one within a few days, but he did not say I needed to buy another watch to get my hands on one.

I agree wholeheartedly with your comments re: Tourneau and another poster's comments re: Lillenquist. They have a "take it or leave it" attitude and lack product knowledge.

Ugh, I don't even window shop at that one. I don't think much of that place or its staff.

Liljenquist has a little hole-in-the-wall shop in Ocean City, MD. The guys at that one seem a lot sharper.
