What's the deal with my new Subbie Date's date?

This is confusing, if I manually set the time, the date clicks over exactly at
12 a.m. On it's own, it turns over at 12:05 a.m. Why???

Not sure why it would do this but here is my take. If you use the crown (position 2, quick set so to speak, I believe) to set the date and only the date without moving the hands then it is possible you are not setting it to am but pm and your timepiece is doing it's job. I set mine by manually turning the crown (position 3, I think) the hands will move (not just the date) until the date has flipped over. By doing it this way I am assured that it is set to am and not pm. Hope this helps.

When you manually set the time you are pushing the geartrain, when the movement is doing the work it is pulling the geartrain..

The difference in time is the amount of gear lash in lthe system..........
