Gmt Master II or Yahtmaster

I am looking at getting my first Rolex. I can't decide on getting a SS GMT Master II or SS/Plantium Yahtmaster. I was wondering the pros and cons of both watches.

GMT for me, multiple timezones, and it's extremely rugged. I believe it sits better on the wrist than the YM, and it can really take a beating.

If it comes down to aesthetics, in my eyes the GMT still wins.

GMT has a cult style following, and works under any situation. Another plus is no polished links. The Yachtmaster is absolutely gorgeous, but almost too pretty for a sport watch.

Both great choices can't go wrong. Whichever one speaks to you.

I'd definitely go with the GMT II. It's a tough watch and you can change the bezel inserts (coke, pepsi, black). Not to mention you can also put it on a jubilee . The YM is beautiful, but some people have complained that the bezel is prone to scratches and is expensive to replace. At the end of the day though both are beautiful watches and you should really choose based solely on which watch sings to you. Good luck and enjoy the experience. Try them on, take some wrist shots and mull it over . I can't wait for some pics

Welcome Josh! For your first Rolex I'd go GMT....

Personally I'm getting a YM next time...

I LOVE my YM but as my first or only Rolex, I don't think it would take the "beating" that a GMT (or a Sub, can't go wrong with Sub) can take.

BUT - there is something about that dial on the YM in the sunlight, I swear I have almost crashed while just staring at the watch and driving!

Good luck and enjoy whichever one you pick.

I like the GMT because of the dual timezones. I guess on the bright side I have six more months to think it over.I haven't been able to check out both in person

I learned that some of the dials are Silver Dust Platinum a nice touch for a SS watch.

i had the exact same dilemma. loved both watches. finally went with the gmt and no regrets. at the end of the day, the ym seemed like a really shiny and expensive sub. also wished the clasp was a little more robust.

I like them both but I'd have to say GMT II for sure. I have the IIc and my son just got a super duper two-tone with jubilee that's a knockout.

Do you have other watches in your collection? Both the GMT and YM are awesome....maybe one of them complements your other watches?

If you're torn between a newer GMTIIc (ceramic bezel) I would prefer it over the YM, why?

Maxi-case
New bracelet
Ceramic bezel

If you're looking at an older GMTII with older type bracelet clasp among other things, then I would go for the YM, I really like the red SH and platinum bezel.

Probably depends on what you are looking for? A daily wearer or a more upscale looking watch.

I personally would choose the GMT for my first. I think it can be worn on almost any situation. (shorts and t-shirt on the beach to a tux)

But, if you want more "bling," the the YM!

Both great watches! Good luck with your choice. I'm sure you will be happy with what ever you decide to buy.

Get the GMT II first then you'll know what to do later.

The GMT has, you know - the GMT complication. That's a pretty big "pro."

If you don't care about that feature, then just buy whichever one looks better to you.

I was pressed with the same decision a few weeks ago. I was ready to purchase my first Rolex and was almost positive I wanted the Yachtmaster. However, I always liked the look of the SS GMT and that was my second option. I made sure I looked at both closely over and over again before I made my decision. One of the things I considered was that I already have a nice SS Chronograph with a black face.

At the end of the day I went with the Yachtmaster which I knew I would. I couldn't be happier. It has been 3 weeks now and compared to my other watch this in night and day. The Platinum for me works with everything. I wear suits during the week so it can definitely be dressed up. Yesterday I had on cargo shorts and a t-shirt and it fit well.

There are a lot of Rolex watches with a black face which I love. To me the Yachtmaster is a little different. You don't see it all of the time. It looks amazing outside in the sunlight. The bottom line is go with what your gut tells you. If I listened to everyone else I would be waiting on the new Submariner. Regardless, you can't go wrong with either one.
