I do believe Rolex copied Blackadder II here. :p
Lord Percy Percy: I've done it, my Lord! I've discovered how to turn things into gold! Pure gold! Blackadder: You have? Show me! Lord Percy Percy: [takes lid off melting pot, and Baldrick, Percy and Blackadder are bathed in a green glow] Behold! Blackadder: Percy... it's green. Lord Percy Percy: Yes, my Lord! Blackadder: Now, look, Percy, I don't mean to be pedantic or anything, but the color of gold... is gold. That's why it's called gold. What YOU have discovered, if it has a name, is some... Green. Lord Percy Percy: [removes lump of Green from pot] Oh, Edmund... can it be true? That I hold here, in my mortal hand, a nugget of purest Green? Lord Percy Percy: Yes indeed, Percy, except that it's not really a nugget but more of a splat. Blackadder: Yes, my Lord. A splat today, but tomorrow, who knows, or dares to dream... |

I love the green gold concept, since it makes the dial a lot more interesting to look at. It's great that it's made of noble metal, but it wouldn't make me want the 'Hulk'. It's obviously a nice trick for the marketing guys, but I think it's not as powerful of a feature than the YM's platinum dial and platinum bezel.
Quite frankly, now Rolex should make two new models: 1) Sub-C with green gold dial + black ceramic bezel 2) YG (or WG) GMT IIC green gold dial + black ceramic bezel I hope they're listening |

I read in some press material that the dial is gold that has been alloyed with aluminum to make the green color.

I will hold judgement on the "Hulk" until I see one in the flesh as it does seem quite hard to photograph.
What I find interesting is that when the LVc was released at Basel, most of the comments on here were negative, now all of a sudden there is nothing but praise for the model |

Let's not forget Gold is Golden in color. If it is a Gold alloy, you can bet the gold content is 585 or LESS.
Just the opinion of a FULL time jeweler. -Eddie

You can create green gold. I hate to dispute what this fellow says but we own a watch made in Russia in the early 1900's and it is crafted of green gold. You can achieve many colors of gold by alloying different metals. There is even 19k white gold manufactured in Canada that has no rhodium plating. JJ you are 100 percent correct. That dial is solid green gold. In the USA anything over 10k is legally considered gold. In Canada it must be 9k or higher. There is NO way that someone in the industry would not understand that there is green gold. Search bay for green gold, it's been used forvdecades.

All gold is an alloy unless it is 24KT, then it would be pure gold. Rolex's white gold models are white metal but they are still 75% pure gold or 750. Rolex does not plate their white gold either. Now with this said I have no idea how Rolex makes their green gold but only know that aluminum is supposedly what gives it the green color.

It seems that they add silver to the gold to obtain the green color , and surely something else that Rolex will not disclose .
Congrats on the watch ! Not sure if it is my cup of tea , but I see why this will create a hype . |

I do believe that if Rolex is using it and marketing it as gold then it would have to be legally 9k or higher (probably 10k or higher). As I stated in a previous post for an item to be considered gold it must be 9k/10k or higher depending on what country you are from. I would believe that rolex would have a stamp on the back of the new dial indicating the gold purity, my gut tells me it is 750 (18k) 75% pure.

hmmm...for them to sell that watch in the UK...describing the dial as made from green "gold" ...then legally I am sure that dial would need a hallmark?..am I wrong?...without the hallmark they can only call it green metal I believe.
