YM Mod Part 2

Well friends,as some of you may remember I changed the buckle on my YM to the GMTIIc easylink in the 1st mod thread....If you missed it,here it is!!http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=130832
I would like to add,I'm still loving this change for the comfort factor mostly but also the looks.....Recommended by me!!

Now to the second mod...
I finally got around to changing the caseback to the sapphire back...Although you can't see it when on the wrist,it is fun to check it out when off!!
It does add a little height to the watch, not sure on the exact measurements though..But still sits and fells good on the wrist,as the YM is known for!!!
I ended up doing this myself, after a little wait for the correct tools to do so...Originaly I was planning on having my AD do it but decided on tackling it with my own hands...I'm glad I did although I was a little hesitant to say the least..Very easy following Larry's thread on the topic and a little reading on the net!!
The 3135 movement although not spectacular by any means is a delight to watch and see up close!! A true workhorse...

So without me gabbing anymore,I'll the pics tell the story!!
PS:Sorry the watch is not clean but it does get worn you know...

Nice job Rob.

That case back is from a German watchmaker if I am not mistaken. I was considering one for my Speedy Pro (Hesalite) but I have sold it.

Thanks Anastasios!!! It wasnt that hard to twist off the caseback though.. I've had it pressure tested and all is well....Even already been for a swim!!

Way to go Rob, a mark of a truely fanatical enthusiast
Looks great, and by the way I've done the same thing to my SubLV and Daytona.

Gotta love that clear back. The new claps are much more superior, imo. I think they are solid and sturdy. Great job and great idea.

Outstanding Rob! And congrats!

WHY!?!?!? WHY WHY WHY doesn't Rolex offer a clear caseback as an option?

The Daytona has a much better looking movement for sure...If I had one,I'd do it in a heart beat!! I hope you find one although I've never seen one for the gold model + the price would be high I bet...Still worth it if you can souce it!!

Love the views of the movement!

The only time I've seen the movement of any of my Rolex was when Giovanni opened the case and showed me the 3185 movement when he demagnetized my watch

GREAT WORK ROB

must give you an immense feeling of satisfaction to have completed it successfully yourself... (if I had attempted, it could have so easily ended in tears... I don't even want to think about it!)

Thanks for sharing with us, great way for us to have some vicarious thrills :)

Sleddog: bro, I don't think thomas is making any in gold version, but I emailed him asking if he would make me one out of brass - shouldn't look very different from gold. And I also asked him if he can instead chrome his stainless version with 18k yg..

No replies just yet though, guess gotta wait abit..

Sticking the steel caseback would just look awkward unfortunately.. Sigh..

I love Rolex modifications, and how it gets the purists all befuddled.

Congrats. Way to make it your own.

Still no reply from Thomas, but I managed to check my jeweler and they would be able to help me chrome it with 18k YG, however they will need to take the glass off first.. And then stick it back. They've done watch chroming for a while already, but I'm worried regarding its water resistance if it was tampered..

CCB's are standard on some watches.

Rolex should consider.
