My dilemma: Sub nd or gmt master ii

Hello all,

I'm a few days away from making my first Rolex purchase and I'm still having a hard time choosing between the Sub ND (14060M) and the GMT Master II (116710LN). My ideal watch would've been the Sub Date (16610) but unfortunately my AD doesn't have any in stock and I refuse to pay $7,300.00 (USD) for the Sub C. I would much rather pay $7,000.00 for the GMT Master II.

The reason I like the Sub ND in all honesty is due to its price of $5450. and because it's a Sub w/o the cyclops and date function. At first, I thought having the cyclops was important. But the more I look at the ND, it's starting to really grow on me.

I love everything about the GMT except the higher price ($7,000.) and the polished center links which from what i've read is a scratch magnet. Due to my minor case of OCD, having visible scratches on the bracelet will drive me insane.

Hope you all can help me with my choice.

Sorry for the long post and thanks in advance.

You could brush out the bracelet for the GMT.
But yes, the PCLs will get very scratched very fast.

My suggestion is you look at some TRF trusted sellers and pickup exactly what you want at a discount price ;)

GMT for me as I love the cyclop, but if it was between Sub date & GMT I'd go for the Sub date and if it's new Sub date c & GMT I'd go for GMT just because it's got better value and functions. Hope that makes sense. But if you don't like cyclops then there's not much choices. Good luck.

Another viewpoint, if you ideal watch is the Sub-Date why not get the new one. It is priced US$300 more, as per the pricing you got.

The new Sub:

a) Looses the second hour hand;
b) Gains a better clasp than the GMT IIC.
c) If you use it to measure things like cooking steaks or the like, the bezel is much more useful the the GMT IIC.

The US$300 might be worth the better clasp.

i'm wondering why $7300 is so bad when you are already willing to shell out $7000.

and are you ABSOLUTELY sure you want to spend over $5000 for a sub when you can get one here on the forum for ~$3200?

if you are in fact willing to shell out $7000, then get two pre-owned models for that price.

but if you're hell bent on buying these models new from a dealer, then go for it!

Go for the one you really want - anything else will be an expensive disappointment.

Contact DAVIDSW and you will get a great deal as well.

i would also get exactly what you want and not buy something you are not 100% happy with just to save 300$! If the new Sub is your dream watch, then go for it! You can also wait a few months, prices will drop for sure!

I don't know what preferences you have but for me, I like dive watches so it is clear that I had to have the Submariner!

have you looked into the 16600 sea dweller? i know the watch is discontinued, but it pops up on the sales forum once awhile. it's like a sub date without the cyclops.

I suggest that a like new, used 16600 SD would fit your requirements. Also, suggest buying one with drilled through lug holes.
