Rolex band question, auth or no?

I currently own a vintage 86' Datejust, where the two halfs of the deployment clasp meet, there is a pin. This pin on all new Rolex models is capped/finished.. On a lot of vintage pics and on my Datejust it is not finished quite the same/at all.

Did they not finish older pins? The Rolex Report just says 'Fake' and little else on the matter.. but I would be amazed at how many fake bracelets are about!

I also just purchased a 91' Explorer that seems to have the same thing going on...

Please advise :)

Some have it some don't.. many people stressing AUTH and yet... Naturally it's a concern for me because I own two.. I get conflicting reports. I've seen them capped and uncapped on both styles of bracelets too.. I'm hoping it's date related.

Mine was purchased by me new in 1980 and the pins are exactly like yours.

I have a 1986 and a 1988....they both have the non-finished pins...both bought new from an AD.....no worries there
