The promos looked interesting, so I started with the first episode and just can't get enough! I haven't enjoyed a show this much since Deadliest Catch, which I have been following since it was a documentary. Am I the only one?

I saw one episode. I thought the guy was a (insert enough words to get banned).

it turned me off of the show.

I get that, Nick. After watching all 4 episodes, it seems to me he is passionate about his work. However, he can be very harsh and definitely suffers no fools.

Well, it looks like I am the only one!

If you can get past his bad attitude, the history is amazing. But I am fascinated by the pyramids, and the mathematics and technology behind them.

Oh, yeah! Man, I was a devout shark week watcher every year. But this year it has been so graphic, I can hardly stomach it! My wife is in medicine, and even she cringed a time or two a few nights ago. Guess I'm getting weak in my old age ...

I saw an ad for it and felt the man was either naturally far too overbearing for my tastes, or being a bad actor. Either way I was not impressed.

But if you find it good, Mike, I guess I should watch it and not judge by the ad alone!

I just watched a couple of them. For someone who is supposed to be the foremost authority on Egyptian antiquity he's a miserable bastard. I hope it's all for the camera. He is so shockingly full of himself, I'm suprised he can manage to raise any money for his projects. I'd tell him to piss off and put my checkbook away. His "fellows", or whatever they are, leave a lot to be desired. There's a difference between having no field experience and being a dolt. I know 2 PhD archiologists, they don't resemble anyone there. Don't even get me started on the guy managing the crew. The whole thing has to be a farce.
Case in point. The episode where they go into the closed chambers in the great pyramid. Who goes on a several hour adventure without supplies? Maybe a bathroom stop before you go in? I thought the old bastard was going to pass out at one point. His big discovery? Does he seriously want us to believe the whole place hasn't been photographed and cataloged before? The camera crew chief trying to go in by himself? He looks like he's about to keel over on a good day. And finally, the humidity readings being taken from the hip while there are 4 or 5 people sweating like pigs in the rooms for several minutes. Really scientific Dr Hawas! If he really closed down the pyramids because of those readings he's dumber than I thought possible.
I suspect that the archiology community is horrified.
He bans removing artifacts from the river, only to make exceptions for things he wants. Jackhole. I will watch to see him try to pull out the obelisk only to have it break off and drop back to the bottom! That says it all.

The show is way to scripted for my tastes in History Chanel shows but I am watching all things Egypt right now with a trip coming up in 6 weeks. Alot of the situations are implausible at best and the girl Zoe is obviously an actress. With that being said the I cant stop watching just for the scenery and the anticipation I have for our trip.

He was an excellent speaker. Very personable, interesting and engaging. No sense of jackholedness at all.

I think he holds himself and the people who study under him to high standards and has a short fuse. It's probably difficult/stressful being the Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities.

Yeah, stressful, just like in the world pediatric surgery where all the physicians somehow manage to be reasonable personable and actually teach residents and fellows in the face of life threatening emergencies. I'm sure archaeology is a real bear. No excuses for his being a jerk ALL THE TIME, even to fellow colleagues. (the woman he didn't really want to talk to, underground radar, etc)
I'm still looking forward to watching his aneurysm rupture when they lose the obelisk.
