Does wearing my watch loosely, allowing it to slide freely above and below the Ulnar styloid (wrist bump), cause unnecessary wear or strain on the movement?

It does seem to jostle around more so than if it was snuggly fitted to my wrist, and I tend to shake my wrist when the watch gets stuck. Am I damaging the movement when I do this?

Here's a photo to help articulate what I mean by my watch sliding freely. The watch is able to move freely to either position displayed.

Also, take it as a size comparison. The TAG has a 39mm case and the Explorer...well, you know.

What do you guys prefer, a snug fit or loose fit?

It won't damage the movement but it can create wear on the bracelet pins. Even so, I like loose.

i wear mine snug on the wrist similar to the position where the explorer sits on your wrist

Of course it won't affect your movement at all, but aren't we supposed to be able to fit a finger in between the bracelet and the bottom of the wrist? There was a thread on that exact issue here a while back and the most knowledgeable people on the forum, including JJ, showed us pics with their fingers in the bracelet. Apparently, that is the proper way to wear a bracelet to keep it lasting the longest. If I'm wrong, please let me know.

One finger loose, that's what I call it. Been wearing all my watches that way since I can remember. I can't stand a snug fitting watch, esp during summer weather.

I tend to vary...but on the whole enjoy the watch being able to move .... There is no way I can see it would damage the movement. Rolex are a tad more robust than that. That's why I enjoy the newer clasps...

Also...depends on the weight of the watch for me..

There have been countless threads on this. JJ did suggest a fingers under the bracelet is necessary.

But in the end...it really is your personal preference. My AD loves to wear his tighter than me...and tells me consistently that that's the way to wear a rolex....whatever....we disagree.

I wear mine just loose enough to move it up, and down my wrist with a wiggle.

I snug it up in the winter, but in the summer the sweat drives me crazy.

I have a friend who has a ridge in his wrist from wearing it tight. It looks so uncomfortable, but he loves it!

This is what I've learned so far with this post...

If you wear it loose, you gain comfort, but if you don't clean your bracelet often, the dibris and dirt, mixed with your own "body cheese", will erode your links and bring your whole bracelet "OUT OF WACK".

But... if you wear it snug... tending to tight, you will gain that "sure grip" that most men like. If you keep your bracelet also clean in this case, ALL YOU WILL NEED TO REPLACE ARE THE PINS, NOT THE WHOLE BRACELET!

Snug but not too snug.. helps the rotor do it's thing I think.. loose and the center of that rotation is more variable? Meh, either way snug, esp. with a watch with the weight of my Sub!

Always a little loose. Seems most comfortable in Arizona's climate, where the degree of fit can very throughout the day.
