Rolex for Dad

Hi guys, whats a good rolex model to give my dad? He will turn 62 years old in November, was thinking of giving him his first rolex. I wanted it to be a daily wear :). Any suggestions? Budget is less than $7,000. Thanks! :)

What kind of guy is he?

Is he a man's man, outdoors, ex-military type or a businessman, banker, captain of industry type?

Does he like gold or stainless, or both?

Personality matters when buying and wearing a Rolex.

I gave this one to my Dad last year for his 70th he likes very much, he is pretty understated and would not want people to know he is wearing a Rolex. You are dealing with a pretty good budget, so you should have many choices. I thought this just looked like my Dad. Best lof luck, whatever you get I'm sure he will love it.

That's a beautiful air king brother. Silver dial with No bevel edge on the bezel, stainless bracelet and 3,6,9 and the sticks...

Fugheddaboutit!

Classy.

Why in the world would we think that because he's somebodies "dad" that he would want a Datejust or Air king.....

I mean, it's possible.........

However, if he is a traveler, then the GMT is the one to get.... If he likes an occasional Ocean Cruise and hanging out at beach resorts, the Sub Date is just the ticket... If he's active and an outdoors man, then probably the Explorer II...

Yeah, not that I would not appreciate the gesture but I would not be happy about getting a DJ. Just not my kind of watch. That's why I asked what kind of guy is he. Knowing that will make it easier to suggest a watch.

Larry were are you in Mojave? I was station at Twenty-Nine Palms I loved the desert.

Thanks guys for the reply, some description about my Dad, he is asian, a successful businessman, he seldoms travel now only to visit business partners 2 times a year. He mostly stays at his building managing his company. He is not a diver.

My thoughts were on a Classic sub or a turnograph, but the Air King posted looks good :)

I have a date just and a submariner. For your dads age I would go for the date just. It is slimmer and more comforatable to wear. Not that my submariner is uncomforatable. I was at the AD yesterday and a stainless steel datejust runs about $6800. I have had my date just for 20 years as a daily wear and swear by it even for an outdoorsy person.

You can't go wrong with a Sub, especially the iconic 16610. So long as the watch somewhat fits his personality, he will cherish it forever because you gave it to him. Last year, I gave my Dad a TT black Sub and he loves it. Now if I got him a leopard Daytona with after-market diamonds he'd probably call me a fool...like the time I went to Cancun for spring break and...well, never mind. Good luck.

I'll bet you if you got him a YG DD even if he was a sport lover and a mans man , I'll bet he wouldn't stop smiling.

Sorry to stereotype by a lot of Asians like YG. This is experience and living in an asian community for almost 2 decades. (I'm asian as well of course)

Show him different models that's in your price range and ask him which one he wants.

Now that we know a little bit about your dad perhaps a TT or steel DJ or DJII would be lovely. Am Asian myself so I know a lil bit about what my dad would want if it were him- pretty much any Rolex lol.

Bi-Metal Date-Just; on an oyster bracelet; either yellow or rose gold- both look nice, classy watches more in proportion with an more mature asian gentlemans wrist in my opinion.

Would like to hear more about his tastes before making a suggestion. Just because he's older shouldn't mean a DJ or Airking. I love both watches, but man I'd hate someone assuming that for me.

Welcome to the forum, and keep us updated.

Great choice based on what he stated. How does he like it?

For that money, I'd suggest a pre-owned yellow gold Day/Date that has been recently serviced / polished.

His mouth will drop.
