Another note one magnetism; transmitting car keys

As a follow up my recent post concerning being careful about parking your watch next to your apple mac book pro...

My watch repair person told me an interesting story today.

After getting a complete service a customer's rolex began running very fast.

Problem was tracked to the fact that at night he parked his watch next to his current model nissan keyless ignition gizmo, the one you wear in your pocket and it unlocks your door for you automatically.

My cell phone holder has a magnetic back that put the phone in standby. I wonder if that would be a problem.

Is this a holder on that clips onto your belt? If so, I would just wear it on the opposite side from where you where your watch. If your watch is on your left hand, wear the clip on the right and access the phone with your right hand.

Bottom line, if your watch is not running fast, I would not think it was a problem. But it never hurts to be careful.

Are you sure this is correct? I've worn/rested all of my watches (Exp. II, IWC MK XVI and PP Aquanaut) next to my computers (MacBook and Lenovo laptops) and the keys to my lexus (same type as the Nissan) and have never had an issue. Should I be worried about something in the future, or is there a chance that there was actually something else going on in the story above?

keep it simple guys! don't use computers and drive a nice car (nissan or lexus), then you will be okay. lol...

i usually put my watch on the night stand next to my bed, the carkey and my macbook pro are on the desk, so don't really notice these things, but glad to know.

So wait. I use a MacBook Pro everyday, and I'm on it for hours at a time. Will my DateJust be at risk?

In my original post, I said that I parked my watch next to the back left corner of my MBP. The MBP has a magnet at that location to hold the power cord secure. As stated, I tested the power coupler with a meter and it went off the chart.

So, no, I don't think there was anything else going on there. However, this does not mean to imply that anything else nor does it not stop me from wearing my watch around my MBP or my Imac. It just means I do not park it in back of my MBP.

As to the Nissan car key story from my service person... May well be something else going on there. I am just reporting what he told me, second hand.

Ahhhh, that makes much more sense (re: the computer). I thought it had something to do with the inner workings of laptops. I'm still not sure I buy the thing about the keys, as I don't know that there's anything magnetic inside (could be wrong), but maybe the Nissan ones are different than mine.
