How to shoot clear pics of Rolex

This is one way...

A great way to get it done without reflections.
Learned this trick from "The Rolex Report" by John E. Brozek.
Play around the angle and height of the camera so that the lens does not reflect into the face of the watch.
With or without the light on top is fine. Just make sure there is plenty of light indoors.
After taking the pictures I just cropped them to size.
Enjoy your new photography skills.

I wonder if my wife will mind cutting a section out of one of the lamp shades in the living room. If I turn the open part to the wall, she'll never notice.

Those look great!

I've tried pictures using an inexpensive light tent purchased on ebay. I still seem to get a lot of glare off the crystal when photographing watches.

Let me know if I'm derailing your thread, but here's an example of the glare I keep getting;

Try putting the watch nearer the end than in front of the lampshade.
You might also want to move the shade left or right a little so the glare does not show.
And tilt the angle of your camera in various positions.
Take a few shots and select the best one.
You get the idea.

Your watch will look a lot better without the plastic in the front.

Yeah, I just got the box out to snap a couple of quick pictures this afternoon. I'll try some of your other suggestions tomorrow.

I think that's a great photo. You can place a piece of printer paper in front of the crystal to reduce glare:

imono, thanks for that instructive tutorial and Kyle, I really like your rolex shots, this GMT-M is great as all the your previous ones.

A can also add one advice for watch photographing. It is good to place around watch (where it would not be visible for the camera) some black matte object (can be sheet of black paper), it will produce nice diffusive contrast areas on the case, which looks very good (it will also enhance contrast between polished and brushed areas on the case).
