Sub ND bezel insert making of?

What is the Sub ND's bezel insert making of? Is it just a black painting on it?

The insert is Anodised aluminium and rest just paint but should still last 20 plus years, but if scratched easily replaced for around £26.Now with the ceramic option well to replace that one its around $900 plus.
