Buying a SS Daytona

I decided to take the plunge and order a SS/Black Daytona. I check a few places and find the avg wait is 2-3 years in my area. I go to another store and happen to have the manager help me out. I get a call a couple of days later and he told me he called Rolex in New York about me and where I work and said he can get me one of the next ones to go out and is charging me retail.

Now that the bragging is over I have a couple of questions :). Why is the Daytona so sought after and do you think they will update it anytime soon?

I believe the reason for its popularity lies in the fact that - being steel - it is the "cheapest" entry to a Rolex chronograph. On the other hand, the twotones Daytona is not THAT much more, comparatively seen. Rolex also deliberately limits the manufacture of the SS version. Some say because Rolex simply earns MORE on the TT's and gold versions, where others say that the limitation is a deliberate attribution to the "hype" that the SS has. Another reason could be that many prefer "sporties" being all steel.

It`s a great watch and Rolex have very cleverly kept supply always a little behind demand. Therefore there`s always a waiting list which adds to the mystique of owning one and of course means there are always people who will be willing to pay a premimum to own one.
In it`s current form it has only been around for while so updating it seems very unlikely.

There is nothing exceptiomal about SS daytona except its scarcity of availabitlity. And abt the changes they have already updated the SS with the inner rolex rolex... engraving and I dont think any further upgrades are coming in near future. So go for it.

He gave the me the choice of white or black. I guess im partial to the black due to my submariner. I asked him if they discount for paying in cash and he laughed. They do on some models but not the Daytona, worth a try :)

Please tell me you are not cutting in line and getting my SS daytona!!!!!?
