Any problem at airport wearing a solid gold Rolex?

Hate to tell you this, but depending upon how you look, this could be asking for trouble. If I 'refused' to do anything in an airport security situation, I would be told that I can turn around and leave, and often that would be after a private interview in a small windowless room.

If your worried about going through the scanner, just take your watch off and put it in your bag you are carrying.

Well, I don't suspect to have any problem in airports. But I'm telling you how I feel when I travel and get to security where I have to take all metals coins, keys .. etc out of my pocket and put them in that small plastic container. I don't have a solid gold watch like you do, mine is a Sub TT 16613 and it's worth way less dollars then your gold watch but I am still very nervous having the watch together with other metal things bouncing around and going into the scanner. Other then that I don't see any problem traveling with your gold watch. Just be careful where you going during the night and don't trust anyone.

I never take my watch off to place it with everything from my pockets - to run thru the scanner thingy !

My personal experience (I fly quite a bit) is that my TT DJ, and SS models do not set off the metal detectors.

Now my Milgauss, that's another story. My wife was wearing it and set the detectors off. My guess is the extra Faraday cage was the culprit. Security told her to take it off. I was standing behind her and said "she won't unless you take responsibility for it. Wand her." the TSA agents were very understanding.

I would agree that if you appear like a potential threat, you will get more scrutiny (regardless of race).

I fly every week it seems.....

I usually put my wristwatch in a my jacket in a zipped pocket (together with my pocket watch). This is done in a safe area e.g. the lounge just before I go through security. After security I put them back on.

I have also forgotten to remove it, or was short of time, and passed without setting of the machine but this varies. Some seems more sensible than others and sometimes the machine pick you on random.

My experience is that one watch only will not set of the alarm but together with rivets in your jeans, small necklaces or rings, a gum in my pocket etc it will set off the alarm....

I've seen somewhere, or was told (can't' remember) that the upper part of these machines is less sensitive so u should scratch your ear with the arm the watch is on to prevent the alarm from being activated.

I do it and I guess it works...

full body scan machines you MUST take off all metal. (at least that is what i was told in the two airports i just flew through) so i declined to take my sub (just SS) off. and went through the "pat down" process.
