I personally much prefer the new sub c to the classic, and I never thought I would say or think that.
The reason I don't have one is the price, if they were still in the $4's I would buy one today. The problem for me is that once I spend that much on a watch, I start to look at other brands and I would much rather have a Blancpain Fifty Fathons than a run of the mill sub. Right now I am waiting for the hype to die down and when I can get on in the $5's, I will buy one and keep it for the rest of my life. As far as availability, they are sitting in my AD's display case, waiting for someone who is willing to pay MSRP, which I will never do.

Seems like there is not an strong demand currently in DK. The Sub C LNIB goes for about 11-13% below list price, and they are not moving fast.

The newness hasn't overcome the economy and price hike in South Florida. Multiple sub-c's sit in the display cases at all times. LV a different story however.

like all new things it takes the market a while to adjust, I remember selling golf mk5 when it first came out and everyone was still after a mk4 because they didn't like the new shape. Mk4 went up in value for a while and we were selling nearly new ones at more than list. Now how old does a golf mk4 look?

Seen a few of them around. One dealer told me takes him a week or so to get one. They were all over Vegas also. I think like most "high demand" rollies if you look you can find them.

I bought my 16610 in 2000 after being on a 5 month waiting list but I'm still not sure what caused that. Circumstances have changed since then. The economic situation in many countries must have some influence. The people that always can afford an expensive watch aren't deterred by that but the ones that have to save for years might have second thoughts.

I was in an AD in Rome last week, and they had one SS C sub. The woman said it was sold, and they were only receiving them one at a time. I don't know if it was because it appeared to be a smaller AD, or if supply is limited to all of them?

I'm a GMT guy, so I've never owned the SUB (or will), so I don't have a pony in the old vs new Sub race.
However, IMO, the new Sub is beautiful, really striking in person. But the price increase is hefty, and I think that is definitely hurting sales. I also think some are worried about the ceramic bezel on a dive watch. But ultimately, I think it's just the plain old economy, and I look for sales to pick up when the economy does. Unfortunately, by the time the economy picks up, the retail for a SS Sub could be approaching $20,000. |

Heck, I got my GMTIIC a little over a year ago and the
MSRP was a whopping 7 grand. Thankfully, I was able to secure a better deal and some interest free financing. But with the way prices are being jacked up by Rolex, I really don't know I will ever be able to buy another. Great history or not, we are talking about stainless steel here. No doubt a great quality watch also but.... Out of hand pricing!

All sold out in my country. Both old (16610) and new submariners.
No discount at all for brand new. I was lucky, i got 4% discount. You even need to pay a premium above the retail price for a brand new piece. This applies to the stainless steel Daytona as well. |

Selling just fine here. Not true at all. Most people I show new vs. old side by side LOVE the new one.

Im sure they are having a hard time selling them because of the price increase, but as AD's go, they are probably trying to move them as fast as they can and would say whatever they will to get rid of them (especially saying they won't hold on to them that long to entice a customer to buy it on the spot).

There was a mad scramble for the 'V' series. I bought one of the very last few pieces before it was completely sold out. Subsequently, the new ceremic Sub was sold out as well. Plenty of gold and platinum models around though. |
