Am I the only one surprised by some seller's attitude?

I'm not talking about the regulars like Tony, David and Oscar, it is just that ever so often I get surprised by the attitude of some sellers. They are not very keen on anwering question, go back and forward a bit and generally support the process. I know in a "perfect world" all you need to do is make a FS post at the price you hope for and then collect payment...

I don't get it. When I sell a piece I will answer any and all question and make sure any potential buyer feels 100% satisfied including after delivery.

Anyone had similar experiences?

there is one around here that I know he would not respond if your questions are "unrealistic" to him.

After 3 deals, I was figured out that he is kind of a quiet man. I do still joke at him any way :-)

I've only dealt with DavidSW and that transaction went very well. I tend to stick with what works.

I never understood this, but it happens in all markets. Annoys me, so I vote with my dollars. A lot of ADs are like this.

Likewise, when I sell, I go overboard to provide whatever is necessary - as it should be.

Remember though, it's a market so that means it goes both ways. I have met people selling things that have no problems whatsoever selling their stuff, so if you so much as take up an extra minute of their time, they move on from YOU to a new buyer. That's a market.

Patrick, I have only my personal experience as an "ameature seller" to reference here, so opinions will certainly vary. But from my perspective, I really dread trying to sell a watch, after having sold a couple. Between the recreational low-ballers and the bezel kickers, an enormous amount of time can be spent answering questions, re-taking pictures, giving explanations, only to be told, "I'll get back to you". I have answered all the questions, and re-taken all the pictures, while trying to maintain my composure and perspective on the process, but I really dread having to do it again. I've currently got three watches that I really should sell, since I don't wear them, but I just can't bring myself to start the process again so they sit in the drawer.

I'm one of the folks who believe that the attitude and courtesy of the seller is part of the overall experience. When I bought my first Rolex (Sea Dweller), I had been into several AD's and was given the cold shoulder, which I believe was because of my age which is 21. Anyways, I finally walked into an AD in Bonita Springs, Florida and got treated like gold. They answered every question with a smile, were patient, let me try on whatever I wanted. So i bought from them, it was great and I'd do it again. When I buy pre-owned, I've bought from Mastermixer on this forum. He's great too, very friendly, very willing to answer all of my dumb questions. I can see that there are many other great sellers that leave people happy on this forum too (davidsw, bodybump, justrolexes to name a few) The beauty of our economic system in America (and Canada which is my native land) is that we have the freedom to choose what we buy and where we buy it, and I intend to exercise that right.

When you see this sellers with glowing reviews, don't you want to buy from them too? That's just good business, and its a win-win for both the buyer and seller.

I agree with everyone else. As a kind of frequent seller on here, I always make it a point to go above and beyond to make the customer happy. After all, that person is taking a leap of faith wiring me money based upon some words typed on the internet. The LEAST I can do is answer all of their questions, take whatever pictures they want, and provide prompt updates in regards to receiving payment and shipping/tracking information. I also always try to encourage a phone conversation as well. It gives more comfort for both parties involved.

What gets to me are sellers who post items FS and when you enquire they said its sold. Makes me wonder... and I stayed away from them when I made mine purchases. If really sold, they should post update immediately as such.

In my opinion a seller should post clear photos of everything he is offering for sale, including 4 or 5 shots of the watch itself , the box, and any included papers.
Also, the seller should post his asking price and the methods of payment he will accept. If his price is firm he should write that in his for sale ad. If the price is higher for Paypal than it is for a wire transfer, he should write both prices in his for sale ad.
The more photos, pricing, and shipping information the seller provides, the less questions he will have from potential buyers.

I totally understand your concern..but as a seller we don't put sold on the item until the transaction is fully done..when we say done when both parties have left each others feedbacks..there still things can happen in between transaction..for some sellers they are just not the type who update their sale everytime they sold a watch..some sellers have enormous amount of inventory that it's hard for them to update all..even me sometimes I didn't realize that I still have that specific watch for sale..:)

I've been on both sides here. I've been lectured on "current market conditions" by a socalled buyer, I've been contacted months after a "sold" thread was posted wanting to know if I was ready to "get real" on my price and I've dealt with some great buyers and sellers. It takes all kinds to make this wonderful world and I just deal with it. It doesn't really hurt.

I understand the way you feel....most sellers here are not retail sale experts.
But I have been lucky with my buying...99% of the members that I did
business with ....will answer all... to their best of their knowledge....

What bothers me most is going to a Rolex authorised dealer like Mayor's in
Fort Lauderdale (Galleria) and get the rudest of treatments from clueless
undepaid sales persons that look like museum guards rather than sales
makers.... Saturday 13:00 I got the rudest of treatments from a lady
that I doubt she knows anything about watches... yet she was there to
supposedly help me with my inquaries about service rather than buy a 2ct
diamond...when she found out that my presence there had to do with their
watchmaker who was out to lunch...and not with her making a sale..?
Her attitude changed and gave me the brush off....
