I like Keith Richards...but I would have to say Slash is the best I have ever heard

. Im old and hands have arthritis .....cant play that stuff anymore.
well never could when I was 30 either.

I read the other day he gave up drinking and smoking now that he has kids and is 45 ...getting old changes you

Keith give up?.....no way......he will die with a cigarette in his mouth.

My knuckles are starting to look like his (not that bad) and it is painful so Im sure It hurts his playing unless he takes some hydrocodone/oxycodone before he starts.....which he has been known to have a few drugs from time to time

I read Keef stopped drinking because he saw how booze was ruining Ronnie Wood's life. Can you imagine having such a bad drinking problem that it makes Keef Richard's stop drinking??

Stevie Ray -- one of my favorites of all time!! I guess when speaking of best guitarists of all time you have to also mention: Jimi Hendrix, Duane Allman and my dark horse-Jeff Beck!! So may great ones over the years--hard to pick one.

Roger Fisher. One of the greats from the 1970s well before some of you guys were born.

John Petrucci.

Joe Satriani.

Gary Moore.Seen him live quite a few time that one long note in Parisienne Walkways Wow.

Jeff Beck.

Eric Clapton. One of my favourite old timers seen him play many time in the Cream days.

Mark Knopfler. One of my favourite albums Brothers in Arms.

The best guitarist accolade is always debated and the criteria by how you judge someone will go on for time ever more. All the people mentioned are all good in their own right, and comes down to if you judge the guitarist speed, style and if they play with soul and from the heart. I was an average guitarist and moved over to bass very quickly when i played with excellent players better than me, yet playing bass is what i loved better, as the bass/drummer is the heart of any band. Here in the UK, Eric Clapton is talked about as the Greatest guitarist, he is good but not the greatest. Bryan Addams guitarist Scott is the guitarist i would pick as the greatest player living and if he had lived probably Jimi Hendrix. Van Halen, Malmsteen, Rhoads, Satriani, Richards,SRV, Slash and other greats, i applaud you all.

I'm about to don my flame suit, but IMO....strictly IMO. Hendrix is completely overrated.

I've been listening to a lot of the early Stone's records the last few years, kind of revisiting them, and Keith Richards may not be what you might consider a shredder, and who cares really, but I've really come to really appreciate just how good he was and is from a musical standpoint. The right note at the right time, so to speak. The opening riff from "Can't You Hear Me Knocking" comes to mind. I just love that sound. The man has soul, whereas your so-called shredder types, like Malmsteen or Steve Vai, leave me cold. I'll take Keith over guys like that any day of the week and twice on Sundays.

Best or greatest is such a subjective thing, but in addition to Richards, I love Jimi, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck (he's still putting out some terrific music) and Eric Clapton come to mind. Stevie still blows my mind every time I pop one of his records in. Sad, sad day when he passed.
