My first was a SS Sub. Love it. Ten years later, I got the TT Blue Sub. Love it. Both can be dressed up or down. Worn both with my tux or with jeans and t-shirts (which I have on now with my TT). No wrong choice there.

I almost bought a TT black sub but did'nt because I have a sub LV and wanted something a bit different...went for a TT GMT IIc instead... Very happy with my choice..maybe something to consider?

I would advise a SS Submariner ref # 16610 or 14060 as what you are looking for. If you do choose the TT, I would recommend the black face over the blue. I think it is a bit more understated, can be formal or casual and less "flashy" to the eye.

I have had both ceramic subs...I prefer the SS, but I spend most my days in scrubs or basketball shorts and Im in my early 30s...to each his own! Either way you cant go wrong!

To me, the difference in the look between TT and SS is considerable. That said, I like them both and they both can be easily "dressed up" or "dressed down". As to which I like more, it depends on the model and color.
To decide which you should get...I would suggest that you try them both on twice; once with a suit and once with your biz casual clothes....and then you will know which one you will want to have.

I love both models. The SS is a silent factor. You can dress up or dress down, it will not be out of place. It does have grace and class. You want people to notice you, not the watch. Only people that knows watches, WILL notice you and your watch.
The TT is an awesome watch. It also has grace and class factor too. Dress up it is great, but everyday watch, to go to the beach, play ball, having a BBQ in the back yard, it can be done, but may be out of place. My vote for the SS now, and for after college graduation ( with good job), go for the TT. You will not regret it my friend. |

Opinions vary. My TT Sub has stood me in good stead in just about every situation. It dresses up or down very well.

I really like my SS 1680, but I also like a little flash, so I got a TT DJ 16013. Actually they both dress up or down, so I wear what I feel like instead of what "might" look more appropro. I would say if I only had one it would be SS.

Don't resist the urge too much!
I think the TT sub is beautiful without doubt. However the Ss Sub to me is a more versatile piece overall. I would like to own both one day. If it were to be my first and only then I would say go SS. Welcome to TRF. |

I would get the TT, its a far nicer watch than the common, utility SS.

TT, either black or blue (I prefer blue) is better choice IMHO, but it`s really matter of personal taste.

I have both the TT 16613 and the SS version. I'd go with the SS for a first Rolex. It really is a classic and understated, although the TT is a real beauty and I always admire it when I wear it.
In the new style sub I really don't like the SS version, too square and big looking, but the new style TT in black in is a real beauty. As suggested before, try them both on and go with your gut feeling. Good luck in your choice. |

well if you feel comfortable with using the TT daily I say go for the TT. I have both (Signature) and they're great watches. If I can only have 1 Rolex I would go for the 16610 Submariner.

No offense to the OP but these kind of posts are sooo silly since the only opinion of value is what does the OP feel about it and asking 100 different people THEIR opinions is also pretty worthless since what works for everyone else may not work for him.
My question to the OP is "What do YOU like." What was right for me when I made the same decision was a TT. I liked the looks better, was in sales at the time so no issue with a "flashier" watch, liked the additional exclusivity of it, added personal status( different than public status since I didn't care what others thought but it made ME feel good that I earned it), went with everything and I do mean everything. Hard for some to imagine but it was my only daily watch for 18 years. Worked on cars with it, scuba with it, everything and... it would still be the only watch I would own if I was forced to have just one. But that's what works for me and may not for you. Good luck and remember, whatever you choose, it is the RIGHT choice!

tough call- I was faced with the same thing when I started collecting Rolexes a few years ago- I went for the SS sub but got tired of it despite its classic look and within 2 years traded up to the 116613 blue ceramic sub- and I never take that off now.

I prefer stainless; however, I do not see how you can really go wrong with either. Either one works in a suit or shorts.
Get what you like?

I have been struggling with the same decision. Can't make up my mind. I've been waiting for over a year now to decide.
If there is a TT that comes up for sale anytime soon I may pull the trigger!

First of all you can't go wrong in buying any Rolex model as they are timeless and beautiful. I like all the Subs equally as I own a Sub ND.....of course the decision lies totally with you but if you are like many here on the Forum you will not be able stop at owning just one Rolex. so you can buy one now and save up for the second one.....I happen to prefer the GMT and own a Pepsi which is my daily wearer and the newer GMT's look very cool. So have fun making a decision and go an try them on at your local AD and see which one you prefer!!!

Am now going back and forth again. Sigh. I guess it's a good "problem" to have, right? Thanks for all the responses.
