Final question on Explorer II

I have one final question about the Explorer II

Does an Explorer II manufactured in 2010 have "ROLEX" engraved around the interior if the bezel like the new Submariners?

Thanks to everyone that has helped me with my Explorer II questions over the last few days.

Yes, since late Z series, which includes M, V, and current series have ROLEX engraving; approximately mid 2007 is when that started with the Exp II model.

I'm quite certain the answer is yes, especially if the serial number starts with a V.

How do you know it was manufactured in 2010? Serial number is the best bet (V or random). If so, then yes, it will have the rehaut engraving and, more importantly, the 3186 movement.

The 'series' refers to the first letter of the serial number which indicates mfg date. Here's a list http://www.rolexforums.com/showthrea...t=54362&drgn=3

Latest explorer (white dial)

I am intending to get a brand new one soon. I have some questions which I hope can be answered here.

When will Rolex introduce the Explorer II with the larger indices like the new Sub or will it remain as it is?

Any changes to the movement for EXPII?

Will there be any difference to the case dimensions?

I am planning to buy the model Hawaii in April 2011.....does anyone know of a good Rolex dealer in Honolulu?

Approx how much can I expect to pay (tax exempt)?

Thanks

Steve

That indicates a 2010 model ... random numbers and letters.

Hi Steve, there's strong speculation that a new Exp II will be launched this year at the Basel fair. But I stress the word "speculation'' - no one except Rolex knows for sure. There are images available on the Net which show a maxi dial (ie larger number indices) and a large orange GMT hand but whether or not these images are of the real thing is not known.

I don't think the dial will be any larger than the current 40mm and chances are that there won't be any major changes to the present movement (maybe a minor tweak here and there).

Thanks for that info!

I know that they have changed from the flip lock bracelet as well and have the rehault ROLEX ROLEX ROLEX. The watch may be better improved with the maxi indices and the new type of lume paint.

As you say, we will just have to wait a bit.

Cheers
Steve.

You're welcome!

Like you, I'm very curious to know whether there will be a new Exp II unveiled in April and if there is, whether it's worth waiting for. The pix that have been circulating do look promising though...

Let me change the thread just a little.

Is there any Ex II series that you wouldn't buy assuming that it was in good condition and with all papers and records?

Still does not tell me the series. Não faz mal. Not really important anyway.

Personally no, but I believe the resale market attaches less value to the earlier series that do not have solid end links (SELs). The difference isn't much though, maybe a couple of hundred bucks.

I'm not sure exactly when Rolex started with SELs on the Exp II, but if I were to guess, I'd put it at around 2001 or 2002. K series perhaps?

Possibly, with all the provenance, but it would have to be LNIB and a local seller with reputation. Here in Australia there some pre-owned watch dealers who are pricing their stock way above what they are worth. I have only previously dealt with one and he is trustworthy.

Buying outside of my country (AU) from a private seller or on-line trader has its risks as well. Customs may spot it and it hit me with local tax so I'm up import duty at least. It's also hard to trust the seller when they are overseas.

I shall be in HNI next April, so an AD there may have what I'm looking for.
