Sapphire models are pressed into the case with a gasket.
Plastic models have the crystal outside the case with a metal ring around the outside of the crystal that made it waterproof.

This is a simple explanation:
Sports watches with a rotating bezel have a crystal ring that is pressed(with a press) on around the crystal that holds it to the case. The rotating bezel then snaps onto the ring. On others the bezel is pressed(with a press) on over the crystal and holds it to the case. -Scott B.
