I recently posted a WTB posting for an Explorer II and have had a couple of responses from trusted TRF sellers and have been talking with one in particular.

Wanting to do my due diligence I called around to a couple of local jewelers that specialize in used high end watches.

I found one Explorer II for $4,050 with no papers, no box and the same Y series as the watch I have been offered by a TRF seller for $3,150. I also didn't get as good a vib from the local guy as I did from the forum seller that I'm talking with. Much less voluntary information on the condition.

I also found one NIB Black faced Explorer at an AD for $4,200.

Yes, the white explorer is more popular than the black faced one but $4,000 for a Y series explorer is a bit much. Even though the black face Explorer isn't a current model, no rehaut engraving, and its black I'd certainly pay an extra $150 for a warranty and new watch even if its been sitting at the AD for a year or more.

Just my thoughts.

With these kinds of numbers its easy to see why so may watches move through the TRF classifieds.

A new Explorer II at an AD for $4200? I think that's a remarkable deal as that's only 66% of current US MSRP for that watch.

If it was a 36mm Explorer that still seems like a good deal from an AD (83% of MSRP).

My ad sells the explorer II for around 5500 canadian taxes in. However if the new one comes out i'm sure the discount will be less on the older model. He always does that. I haven't checked recently. I'm waiting for the new one. If i get another fantastic deal from him like i got on my new Sub C i might just get another rolex.

Yeah....I'll join the hate squad on the Rehaut engraving. That said, I don't mind it on my V Series DJ, but glad NOT to have it on my Sub & GMTII!
