jeweler offering free annual refinishing?

I looked at Rolex at a local jeweler. She told me if I bought from them they would refinish the watch once a year. I thought this was puzzling. Why would a high quality stainless watch need refinishing every year?
I asked if when I brought it in for refinishing they would try to sell me on having a $500 service. She said no....

I read somewhere you should only get your Rolex polished by RSC since they have the better machines.

The refinishing is only $50-75.

The full service overhaul is $500.

It is nice of them to offer than.

I would prefer to get my refinishing done by the RSC - they have the proper machines that keep the lines of the case crisp. Anyway, polishing a watch every year reduces the lifespan of the watch looking at its best - every time you polish, you lose a bit of metal, and there's nothing worse than an overpolished watch. Once every 5-7 years, in line with a full service, is absolutely fine by me

I'm in the camp that "refinishing," if that means polishing, is not a good thing for the watch. Clean only, never polish. Therefore this offer wouldn't mean much to me! And even if you like that "new" look, you're right, a Rolex definitely doesn't need refinishing each year!!

nothing wrong with the offer,it's just if you want your watch to look as good as new each year,as the watch will pick up marks,Rolex would be the best people for the job,so if you can wait to get it polished at the same tme as your service all the better.

I agree wholeheartedly. I have a watch with Bob Ridley right now, and I told him specifically NO POLISHING

I sure they mean well, but I'd rather have Rolex do it-if at all. As mentioned once metal is gone.....

from what I hear of Bob Ridley, you wouldn't even have to tell him that, he'd just know! (but never hurts to specify - i know i would!)

I like the look that the watch has been worn. Would only refinish at the servicing every 5-7 years as well.

Depending on the watch, use and condition I may not even have it polished when serviced every 5-7 years. My Exp II is my daily use watch, its in pretty decent shape, not too many scratches on it but it's only 2 years into it's life. I REALLY DOUBT I will have it polished in a few years when I send it in. Its not a beauty queen and those are just like the wrinkles I am slowly starting to get... Its just part of life.

An Explorer II looks better with a few dings and scrapes anyway! I think you can get away with it more on the brushed bracelets than one with polished centre links - my Datejust is 2 and a half now, and the bracelet has mellowed nicely. I think when it comes to service time, though, it'll be ready for a good polish

Watches never look the same after they have been polished. If you look with a loop you can tell a watch has been polished. I get rid of my watches prior to needing a polish.

X2 Chris and with the many many posts about the slightest scratch on TRF now.Scratches are a fact of wearing any watch, but any normal slight scratch easily remedied at service time.Just cannot see any point in getting a watch polished every time it gets a scratch. When around every 5-8 years at normal service watch will be returned polished correctly and as good as new. So why worry about scratches or polishing we must remember its only a watch, yes a expensive fine watch, but still a watch. And its one of the toughest mechanical watches made today, and meant to be worn and enjoyed, and not to worry about the slightest scratch or polishing..

I'd had it polished every 5 years. Not every year.

All SS is polished even when it is brand new. So if polished properly with the correct equipment it would look like new condition with a loop considering that there were no deep gouges.

If you took advantage of that offer and had your watch polished every year you wouldn't have much of a watch left after ten years or so.

It's not so much the machines it's the person doing the polishing
