There a so many rumours about Rolex all the time.
Lately, Rolex was bought by Swatch Wait and see. Only Rolex knows. But whether the LV has been discontinued or not.....: There were SO many made, so I don't think it will be that great an investment.

Yes.....agree that it would not be a good investment.Jus like the maxi dial....it looks so much like the vintage dials.Knew of a few guys who thought it was a good investment....and paid SGD$10500 for it.Now....on the grey market....can pick one up for $7500.......box and papers.

Well...... I must say that IF it were discontinued, it would fetch a premium IMHO. But not a premium that would be *crazy* like the SS Daytonas. It all depends on what you consider being a good investment. I for my part wouldn't buy it to earn a buck in some years, simply because I don't like neither the green bezel nor the maxi dial. I'd drop the LV like it was hot......it's a snoop dog to me.

To my knowledge the 16610LV remains in production. Normally changes are announced at Bazel, and the only reference discontinued was the16710. The rumor persists that the LV is a limited item. That is simply NOT the case. The 16610LV was introduced to commorate "50 years of the Submariner" Granted no one knows the number of examples produced to date, but it's probably safe to say far fewer than the 16610. Certainly there were those that speculated the LV would be dropped from the line and they would have an instant winner. As I've said before it simply doesn't work like that. References such as the 1655, 1665, even the 1680RED were made longer than the LV has to date and these references are considered by some very collectable. Even the 5513 -- made from roughly 1962 to 1989 is going way north in valve compared to the number of examples made. At some point the LV will cease production. Who knows when? At that time desirability and availability to the collector will determine it's place in the scheme of things. |

Excellent post Mike and all very very true today afraid now most good vintage Rolex outstrips the demand by quite a lot.

I think they will be available for a while yet.
I was offered a BNIB Green Sub from an AD at list a couple of weeks ago in Sydney. He said too me that everyone who wanted one on their waiting list got one, and so no need to sell at a premium. They probably would've given a little discount if I was serious (and had CASH). John. |

Maybe they'll stop the Clownmaster production after five minutes.
