I think that the Beretta jammed on him and he switched to the PPK. I cant remember if it was in Dr.No or From Russia With Love.

I added my Sub to our Homeowner's policy under the existing jewelry rider we have for my wife's stuff. It wasn't _that_ much more, and I feel a lot more calm. It's not so much theft I was worried about, as loss (diving), damage (diving), or just general making-a-stupid-mistake (hopefully NOT diving). I had a jeweler do an appraisel, took hardcopies of digital photos of the watch showing the S/N and papers, and dropped the package off at my insurance agent and they added it to their files.

The only drawback about having a gun safe at home is that then people know you have valuables at home, e.g. guns, cash and jewelries. You'll be surprised how much "outsiders" know about your house even if your safe is at the basement.....the water heater repairman, the building inspector, etc. you'll never know what kind of friends they have. The problem then is NOT burglary, rather it may turn into a strong armed home invasion type of robbery. If the dudes cannot open the safe, they may wait around for you or your wife to return home and that will make the situation more dangerous. On the same token, I once saw an ex professional burglar being interviewed on TV. He said he had never burglarized a home which had NO alarm installed. If no alarm, he figured, there couldn't be anything valuable. And that made sense. If someone comes to burlgarize my house, all he'll find is a computer. All my valuables are in the bank. I needn't worry about being robbed, fire, flood, or earthquake. |

************************************************** ******** Actually while in Hawaii, I did see some people went diving with their solid gold Submariner. I assumed the Subs were real because the fakes are not waterproof. However, why in world would a person go diving with a $10,000 watch? Besides risking losing the piece in the ocean, I am sure LONG EXPSOURE to salt water is not good for the watch even tho it is a Sub. My watchmaker told me that that was the reason why a lot of the Subs lost their bezels. |

Florida Sam I love your insurance policy. I have the same coverage the 35 program with an additional 27 policy as a back up incase the first policy fails to cover all the possible damages. Self-coverage with an Austrian under-writer can be so gratifying less paperwork to fill out.

Reno, NV, area rarely has devastating earthquakes unlike in the San Francisco Bay Area. As a matter of fact, there has NOT had any BIG quake in Reno as far as any records show. However, if one does hit the area - God forbids, the bank vault will most likely stay in tack while the rest of the building may have collasped. Also when I rented my safety deposit boxes, I made sure I requested those that were high up from the floor, in case of flooding. That thought never came across my mind until somebody reminded me of that potential happening. |

I have that exact same picture autographed and framed, love the white jacket tuxedo look! Also, we used to have ours insured by Jewelers Mutual but checked with out AllState guy and it was cheaper to put them on a separate rider - they also have our homeowners and car insurance.

My AD immediately photopgraphs the watch at time of purchase, does an official appraisal, puts it all in a nice package which I drop off with my insurance agent and she adds it to the homeowners package. Better price than the jewelry policies out there I think. aws

For those of you who said they are covered under your home policy, I would check that paperwork. I have not seen a policy that offers unlimited jewelry coverage. There is always a max amount covered. Mine is only $5000, but my wifey's ring is considerable more than that, so we have a separate policy. It is 1% of the appraised value per year. When I do get my Rollie, it will be added to the policy.

Interesting thread! My GMT costs me £5 a month extra on my home contents insurance and that's for world-wide coverage. I double-checked this and got it in writing as I work in some pretty dodgy places but prefer to take the watch wherever I go rather than leave it in my safe.
On the other hand, I have a telescope worth about the same as the watch and my insurer will only cover it for use within the boundaries of my own property! My car insurer also won't insure the telescope if I have it in the car! Mind you, it's probably much easier to break a telescope than it is to break a Rolex! |

It was the other way around when his Beretta caught on the waistband of his trousers when he needed it. As M said in Dr. No, "It's that damn Beretta again."

The P5 is a 9mm, not a .380. Loaded with certain ammo, it's quite lethal. But mainly, it is superbly engineered, accurate and fast handling. But then again, in 007's hands, even a .25 was deadly.

I believe jewelry on a homeowners policy does have a limit. If you need coverage for higher amounts its better to put it all on a separate policy, that way I'm told if you had a claim you wouldn't get an increase on your homeowner policy. I have home, auto, and jewelry with State Farm. Jewelry on a separate policy runs $1.30 per hundred.

I have my Rollie on my wrist pretty much 24-7, so I guess insuring it against theft would be a little unnecessary. It sounds like there are policies against losses and breakage as well, though, that are worth looking in to. I suppose when I do pick up my Ex-II I'll insure them both against theft, considering I can't wear them both at a time...
For now, I go with the same Austrian insurance that some other members utilize. Mine is a Policy #27. |

Surely, you jest! I'd go with something more like an Ed Brown 1911. Much more refined than anything Colt ever made. Not to mention, it's all handfitted like a Rolex, and goes up in value... Sorry, since there was a gun thread going on, I had to get my $0.02 in. And, BTW, that's a sweet Walther. Always wanted a P99, but I think that one is much more original looking, especially due to the fact that I own a P22. Anyway -- nix the Python!

Why is it that we can always count on gratuitous handgun pics every time the topic of insurance comes up? Is it just macho posturing, or would you guys really shoot somebody to protect a stupid wristwatch?

Insurance is a MUST all my watches over 1k are insured by Allstate.
As an officer of the law (even though i'm a probation officer) I am issued a glock 22 and keep it on me at all times. Not the nicest gun but it's what most of us cops carry...Now for fun I have an colt ar15 sporter sp1 carbine and every time I goto the range the thing puts a big smile on my face. |

I have a concealed weapon's permit. If I am on the street, and someone approaches me with a gun -- again, deadly force, by law, is authorized. Who's to say that in either case, I simply hand over my valuables and I'm safe? My wife's safe? NO ONE! The likelihood of being shot to leave no witnesses is high. If there's an armed robber, then he didn't bring the gun to make a fashion statement.

I do insure my Rolex. On my small street there have been three robberies in the last year . . .and it's a decent neighborhood!

Sterling, I understand what you're saying, but it doesn't get to my real, unspoken point.
This is the Rolex forum, not the Guns & Ammo forum, yet the guns always come out a-blazin' whenever the topic of insurance comes up. Guns aren't insurance. They're weapons. Now, if somebody asked, "What weapon do you use to protect your Rolex?", I would totally understand all the gun posts... though I would consider it a sophomoric question, to be sure. I am a musician, and frequent several music forums. The topic of insurance comes up all the time, and never have I read anybody saying, "This guitar insured by Smith & Wesson." The whole online gun brandishing on a watch forum thing just strikes me as incredibly immature. |
