Black and White SS Daytona
Hi again! I noticed that some folks in this forum have both black and white SS Daytona in one's collection.
If I may ask -- why is this the case? Does getting both black and white SS Daytona tell something about the Daytona's appeal? For those with either black or white SS Daytona, would you get the opposite SS color? What about going for YG or WG model? Is buying a dial for the opposite color another option? Again thanks so much in advance for all inputs and comments shared. |

I'm guessing it's because they can't decide between two very attractive watches and so decided to get both.
It's the same with the Exp II - I know of people who end up buying both. |

I own a black face Daytona but I'm thinking of buying a White dial to change them as and when required - how easy is it to get a watchmaker to swap the dials say once or twice per year??

For me it is a big visual difference due to the different dials, so if you are lucky enough to afford one of each, get them!
There are people having several Datejusts too, to have different dials. Same thing with Milgausses. And Explorers have been mentioned already. Best, A |

I only have the white one... which i am perfectly happy with. Don't think I would pick up a black dial unless its a zenith or vintage piece. However, I can see why people love the black dial and would buy both. It really is a stunning piece with very different personality between the black vs white dial.

I own a white one, and my AD did tell me he would get me a black one when I was ready if I ever wanted one.
Its a bit tempting, but I have yet to go there. I just have so many more other watches I would like to own.

white is a little more 'sporty' whereas the black one is a little more 'classy'...
Both are great either way! |

Thanks again for the inputs. I love my white Daytona no doubt about it but am seriously thinking of getting a black Daytona due to its different touch and appeal -- sporty feeling than the white. Like what was mentioned here, I would also like to acquire other brands so am rethinking about it before I take the final plunge.

If one can have both black and white--why not!! That is what collecting is all about--buy what you like--all subjective!!

How long did it take you to get the sub dial seconds hand to be identical before you took the picture? More like how many try's did it take since I know someone is going to say 60 seconds to line them up...LOL

I have a white SS and would like a black SS too. Someday??
Last weekend I was in Ocean City, Maryland and saw a Rolex sign over a strip mall on our way to brunch. During the delicious brunch of steak and eggs and a "few" bloody marys I told my wife if there was a black SS Daytona there I am buying it!! It would be a sign!!! She said yes knowing they are not in the display cases, or did not used to be. I walked in to this stripp mall somewhere on 80-90th street and in the display case there was a WHITE dial SS. My wife laughed and said "too bad it is not a black dial"!! The sales guy told me if he had a $1 for every guy who walked in there and wanted it but did not pull the trigger becauese his wife would not approve, he would be rich, guess it is the sign of the economy. To think I had my wifes blessing that day??? When the bloody marys wore off she told me she was kidding???? Someday I guess???? But I still love her!!!

I recently bought a SS white dial and love it! But I wouldn't mind getting a YG or RG in the future.
