Icon2 Recomended Rolex reading? (looking for good reference books)...

Apologies if this thread's been done before... But I'm looking for some good reference books with in depth detail on vintage Rolex... Can anyone recommend some books or magazines??

Yazo, I haven't read it but I hear for sports model vintage the following is pretty comprehensive (although expensive):

"Vintage Rolex Sports Models: A Complete Visual Reference & Unauthorized History" by Martin Skeet and Nick Urul.

I think you can get it at Amazon. Maybe someone else has first hand knowledge of this book.

Dowling & Hess "The Best of Time Rolex Wristwatches. An Unauthorized History".

Martin Skeet & Nick Urul "Vintage Rolex Sports Model"

John Goldberger "100 Superlative Rolex Watches"

John E Brozek "The Rolex Report"

Kesaharu Imai "Rolex 3,621 Wristwatches". Pictures inside are worth the read.

And those big giant books from Italy at well over $600.00

"The Best of Time'' by Dowling & Hess is probably the most comprehensive since it gives details of how Rolex was founded and covers many non-sports models as well.

LOL... Didn't realize my wife had bought me this one already:

Martin Skeet & Nick Urul "Vintage Rolex Sports Model"

So I ordered the following 2:

The Rolex Report: An Unauthorized Reference Book For The Rolex Enthusiast
Rolex Cosmograph Daytona Manual Winding (The Patrizzi Pocket Expert)

But am looking for "A Legend is Born - The Daytona" which seems to be a hard find!

Sub Story not available on Amazon-- anyone know where to pick one up?

I got the Daytona book a Legend is Born from Anastasios too - great book! A must for a vintage Daytona lover like Sunny!!

My other favs have also been mentioned -- Dowling's The Best of Time and Goldberger's 100 Superlative Rolex Watches -- just salivate over some of the pieces in Goldberger's, including the 8171s/6062s moonphases...

Thanks for the kind words. My colleague and I are just now considering an offer from our publisher to do a 4th (gasp!) edition of our book.

Obvioulsy, guys like Mondani and Martin Skeet & Nick Urul (truly awesome books btw) have gone ways that James and I did not go and if we are to modify our book for another edition, the new chapters will have to take on a completely different tone.

Lots of great stuff out there now and the info on the web is coming much faste rand in more volume than any book could ever catch up with.

(This form leads the way btw)

Cheers!

Thanks for the kind words for the Forum Jeff..

I, for one, look forward to a new edition of your and James book "The Best of Time". I have the second edition but would buy a 4th !!

I frequently go to your research on serial numbers as one of the best available and enlightening.. Your book is always one of my research sources whenever I prepare a tech article for TRF.....

sorry to bump this.
which book is good with alot of info about past and present Rolex watches?
specifically more info on watches and their histroy as compared to just pics and reference numbers

the rolex sub story looks good but out of my price range (€ 620) and most likely sold out

100 years of Rolex iPhone app is cool. Not a reference book obviously, but cool to have right on your phone.
