I think it is great work and Rolex would have no interest in these modifications whatsoever.
My Daytona and all my other watches belong to me and I can legally do what I like with them.
If I sell it (in it's modified format) as original then that might be a different story but as long as I own it it is none of Rolex's business.

Original Rolex dial refinished - just a stock 116520 dial with different colors - ok that simplifies the complete pain that it was to get the silver just right and the sub-dials to look good.

Absolutely correct Eddie. I am one of the purists that don't think you should change at all the way a watch comes out of Rolex. That said, it is your property, as long as you don't try and deceive anyone, you do what you want with it.

Even thought I am a "Purist" and won't ever change my Daytona, I must say, DAM, that looks really really good!!!!

Bought one of Doug's bezels for my YG Daytona and couldn't be happier with the outcome...have always loved the retro PN look and the bezel along with the new Panda dial fits my taste perfectly. Like many here, I'm a big fan of tasteful personal modification. I also had a vintage Rolex Pres bracelet modified at the end pieces to fit my strap Daytona. Second photo is that look with the original "modern PN" dial and gold bezel installed.

Still looking good after it's first 48 hrs on my wrist. Brushing the lugs sometime this week.

My Panda Dial just arrived in the mail but I think I like my current dial better.

Looks like I need another Daytona.

I wouldn't doubt that Rolex would create a similar looking Daytona in 2013, with a black ceramic bezel and a panda dial. We'll see...

Well that is pretty daring the crown guard removal. As I am a "flipper" I don't want to do anything that isn't reversible - yet... But you're right that would be a great move to grind them off.

I have previously been known to go off the deep end on the topic of modifications surrounding PROJECT X, but I honestly think you are onto something very nice here.

As long as a person doesn't feel a need to go to a RSC for service, I think what you are doing is quite elegant.

I just brushed the lugs today and it turned out great I think. Had to watermark my photos as they got poached and posted on another site.

Did you brush the PCL's and Lugs yourself? How easy is it and what did you use? Also, for the black bezel, could you have left the original bezel and had it PVD coated rather than having custom bezels made? I still think yours looks great though!

The PCL brushing was done by an AD's technician. The lugs were brushed with a fine emory board to getthe correct angle with the bezel off.

As for why not try the PVD stock bezel - I have one being done right now but I like the appearance of a narrower bezel with the stainless protective edge.

I can post pics with the PVD bezel later.

It was a 10 minute project to brush the lugs and the PCL's
