So I decided to have my initials engraved in the back of my subc. Nothing fancy, but wanted to personalize it. I'm of the opinion that it's a keeper for life and then will pass it on to one of my sons. And as other have mentioned previously a new caseback it not a big deal if somehow I needed or wanted to sell it.
The engraving was done through Rolex Canada in Toronto, at no charge to me even though it was a few months after the purchase. The watch was serviced, regulated, and pressure tested after the engraving. ( it would have been a "light service" obviously since it is so new. The scratches on the band and clasp were buffed off although I wouldn't have minded if that had not been done.
Anyway it was suggested a while back to have a "show us your engraving" thread so here it is.
Show us your engravings! ( that's what the plain caseback on a rolex is for after all)

Thanks. I've read numerous posts where people have mentioned how much it means to them to have their dad's (or whoever's) initials on their inherited watch, so I thought it hopefully would be meaningful to my kids in the future as well!

Just send the caseback. I plan on getting one of the Priek display backs to use while I wait. My biggest problem is what I want to have engraved. I'm not sending the whole watch away for weeks just to have the case back engraved. It avoids a lot of complications. Worst case, order a new case back and try again.

I bought my Sea Dweller to commemorate my time in the US Navy. I was thinking of using the crest below, the officer's crest, and some combination of my initials, rank, and years of service. I guess I could just let the artist develop a plan for my engraving and see what he thinks would work. There's less space back there than you think.

When I get around to it, I'll definitely post a photo. Most don't seem to have much interest in personalization, but I'll never sell the SD, so why not! And, I agree that the personalization makes it extra special when it is time to pass it on.

Your case back came out great.

Great idea!

I wear a signet ring engraved with the family crest that my parents gave me when I turned 18. I have matching cufflinks they gave me for my 21st.

I might just have the crest (a falcon perched on an oak stump) engraved on the case back of my sub.

The big limitation is space. It's a 40mm watch, but the engravable area is only the size of a nickle. I think the guy I linked above is up to the task.

Hmm... It wouldn't be for me. While I can appreciate it as a collectors piece, I live about 10 miles from Lockerbie... A lot of bad memories associated with PanAm, though, through no fault of theirs.

Yes it is a shame that things like Lockerbie have to taint the memory of a company that had a rich history in civil aviation.

Sorry guys about bringing up bad memories, it is not my intention, however Pan Am was the aviation leader for decades, Rolex GMT would not be here if not for Pan Am.

No need to apologize. It is still a cool caseback and as you say the GMT wouldn't exist but for them.

Jon, did you consider having the sentimental date (if there was one) engraved on your caseback as well? It seems that 30 years from now, it would be cool to have a date engraved on the caseback..........ESPECIALLY if it was purchased for a birthday, anniversary, etc.
