92 seadweller question
i have the opportunity to purchase a 92 seadweller in worn condition and will need a new band one link is broken/warn in the band, my question is he has had it since new and wants 3500, a new band cost roughly 1000 and it also needs to be oiled because the ad i brought it to said so. so what im asking is at 3500 is that an alright deal or should i keep looking?

Sounds a bit high considering the defaults.

the problem im coming across is there isnt anyone in michigan it seems to have a used sub or sd for sale around 3000 he might go lower, but its not that its in bad shape it obviously doesnt glow anymore and needs a new band but does look good. when i brought it to the ad they said its worth around 2500... after being serviced that seemed low to me but just was curious

No way. You'll regret buying that. Spend the extra grand on a good recent SD and there will be no hassle about the bracelet, and you will get a newer, better watch. $4500 can get you a fair condition 2000's SD. If you go to 5 you can probably find mint condition.

I'm going to say that 3500 bucks is not a bad price for a SD, even if it does need a bit of work.. So long as the case has not be refinished, and the dial and hands are good, this might be a decent purchase...
You simply cannot say that you must reduce the price by the cost of a new bracelet because there is damage to the one on it.... a good used bracelet can be had at respectable prices to repair the damage (and you don't want a frankenbracelet)... You also can't really expect to have the seller pay the costs of an RSC service, even if it needs it.. I would much rather have a solid case and dial/hands, and an untouched movement than have one the seller claims is "freshly serviced", when he had a 200 dollar special done to it.... If this watch has never been touched or altered, and the case and dial and hands are good, an investment in a fresh RSC service, and a new bracelet (do not send the old one in) will give you a like-new SD of your own and pay you back in the enjoyment only one of these classics can and the knowledge that you rescued it before it got butchered.. ....... of course, and again..... condition of the case and hands/dial is paramount.........

I would buy it and put a $100 aftermarket bracelet on it if the head is in good condition assuming it is authentic. Wear it on a NATO for that matter. $3,500 might be a bit steep considering it needs a service. I would do it for $3,200.

$3500 + $1000 (bracelet) + $500+ (service) = $5000+.
$5000 should get you a LNIB, near new SD. That's the way I would go. If you want to wear it on a strap/NATO, use the above costs to get the price down to $3000 and it's probably a good deal. You can always add a bracelet, but the whole deal needs to make financial sense.
