My AD told me that the new Exp II will come in around $7500-$8000 Canadian. Sound right??

I hope that's not true, as I think that price will move the ExplorerII back into obscurity. If, however, it is priced below the GMTIIc (which seems appropriate, given the non-rotating, non-ceramic bezel), I think it could do very well.

But, Rolex has been doing this longer than I have, and I'm sure they know what they're doing.

Canadian prices include an almost 20%VAT, so I think it will be the high price rather than the lower one..

I expect to see about 7,000 here in the USA, but have not had any evidence to support that...

I second that Larry, $7000 to $7225
if you follow the history of the price on the gmt ii, sub and the explorer they are very close in price...so I think without any facts it should be right around those #

No, Canadian prices do not include a VAT. In most Provinces we pay an excise tax on top of the MSRP of around 13%.

One might think our prices include a VAT considering they are inexplicably higher than the US prices despite our dollar hovering around par.

However I agree our prices will likely be the higher one, but for reasons unknown.

Just curious what the reason for keeping this secret is? I'll be buying one when I return from deployment but would like to know what I'm going to pay. It's odd to me that they won't release a price.

I doubt that there is any real secrecy here.. The watch isn't even on the market yet and has only been seen for a couple of weeks....

I'm pretty sure that the latest price-sheets will hit all of the Dealerships some time this month that will show/up-date all prices acros-the-line..

I stand corrected.. I was under the impression, and thought that I had read in several places, that the Canadian Government levied a GST on retail products that was reflected in the "MSRP" prices shown..

I completely understand why people might think there is a VAT in the Canadian MSRP, considering our prices are so much higher. Unfortunately the GST is added to the MSRP and not included within it.

Rolexes aren't the only items that have such a price difference with the US. I think it has to do with the fact that many Canadians are used to paying more (likely a result of past exchange rates). Retailers take advantage of the willingness of many Canadians.

Not this Canadian. I will either negotiate a decent discount to even things out, or buy from the US.

If I'm not mistaken, a Rolex imported to the US is subject to less than 3% in duties, while one imported to Canada is subject to 5% import tariff and 5% excise tax, the second tax applying even if the watch were manufactured in Canada.

Thus, after adjusting for currencies, we'd expect the watch to have an MSRP ~~7% higher in Canada.

If I did my homework correctly.

The 5% excise tax is paid directly by the consumer on top of the MSRP. It is the federal portion of 13% tax charged in most provinces on the sale of most goods and services. This should not be considered when determining the difference in MSRP as we pay it in addition to the MSRP.

The tariffs may play a role, but that would only result in a 2% difference.

I seem to recall the local AD telling me the current EXP II being somewhere close to $7K CDN, so my guess...it'll be well over $8K....my guess $8500.

Just to add to the confusion...in Alberta pay 5% GST and that's all so not such a large amount to add to the MSRP...always still hope for discount at least later on. In the meantime have my EXP II to keep me happy!!!
