EBAY Sea Dweller - Opinions

I'm only a Rolex newbie and want to get a Sea Dweller.

I found this on Ebay right now. Could I have some opinions on the watch from the photographs?

It looks good to me but I'm not a expert.

I'd really appreciate any opinions.

Maynard welcome to the forum from what I can see the tool is missing from the photos. The "tool" has Rolex ref. 2100 written on the side. The tool comes with every Sea-Dweller so if the seller will not include it keep looking. The tool is double ended one side has a punch which is used to size the band of the Sea-Dweller, the other side is a micro-flat head screw driver used to tighten the small all-black screw found inside of the end of the band. I own a SD and have had to tighten this small screw twice. Inside of the tool is an additional small black screw to replace the screw which came with the SD in the even it becomes lost. Demand that the tool which comes in a green leather wallet, the wallet could be the item in the left bottom corner in photo one the wallet I have with my Z series has only the Rolex crown without anything else (included is a Buehlmann table which is a divers dive time table, and an additional Rolex band extension it should have the Rolex symbol and an L on the extension) It looks like the extension is in one of the photos but the seller is just keeping the wallet and the tool. Keep shopping if he/she will not include the tool. The fact the he/she is keeping the tool out would be enough for me to look elsewhere it is dishonest to not include it. There is a chance

Also try looking at an authorized dealer for a Sea-Dweller from time to time a perfect used SD comes in an AD can check to make certain everything is in good order with your watch. Sleaze bay has been the down fall of many good people just looking for a Rolex who get taken advantage of by dishonest people. Sleaze bay is not on your side if you get ripped off. Just my two cents worth.

I am not that worried about the took kit as I now know after speaking to a couple of official Rolex dealers that the tool kit is not being included with all new Sea Dwellers any longer.

I guess I just need some opinions on whether everything looks kosher with the watch from those who know.

My concern with that listing is that the seller has no feedback history for selling watches. It might be legit but I'd pass.

Looks fair dinkum to me. Trader has been around a while (2003). Could be a good buy for someone local here.

If I was a buyer, I would contact him for a meet and discuss just to be on the safe side.

I just purchased 2 Rolexes on eBay and they were both proven to be genuine and as described. However, before placing my bids, I ALWAYS insisted on having the seller either to send me or to post CLOSE UP pictures of the movement. No photo, no bid is my policy.

Oh furthermore, if the seller gives you some BS excuses about NOT being able to open the back, then tell him to take his watch to a watchmaker to open it. Believe me, after posting a few close up pictures of the movement, they will help to generate more bids for his watch. If he is too cheap to invest a couple of bucks to have the back opened, then run along. He is hiding something.

Also I would question the info on the tool kit, my understanding is yes they still are included My SD was purchased new from my AD Jan 2007 the tool was there it is the anchor that is no longer included. If you don't mind than that is all that matters, just be careful.

I suggest strongly that you don't buy from ebay, too many scams, unless you can eye ball the product and hold it in your hand the I wouldn't touch it. However if you buy from Australia I would recomend Nicolas Hacko (many would know him from being probably the best poster on this site) , I live in Tasmania and he is in Sydney, however I went there for a holiday last month and I dropped in to see Nic and his watches, I looked at watches that he lists on his site and they are spot on to their descriptions. I will buy a watch from him over the net no trouble.

I am not associated with him at all, but I will certainly recomend him

BUT: The item is in Australia, and you are in the USA, I believe?

I'd prefer buying one that you can pick up locally from an eBay seller. Then you also have the opportunity to ask him if he would be willing to go to an AD with you to have the Rolex authenticated. If he backs off, then avoid the seller like the bird's flue.

ALSO: If you have the watch SENT from Australia, you are going to be hit baaadly by custom's.

So basically, my point is: Watch looks good, but I'd pass on that one if I were you, living in the USA.

In terms of what the photo shows, it seems legit, however the price is a little pricey for used.

If you've already done your pricing homework and adamant on getting this, see if you could get the seller to meet you to an AD to verify the watch.

I would think that buying a previously owned watch from an AD might be a safer bet. You could likely negotiate better. I am sure their are good/great Ebayers...You might pay a slight premium with the AD but better safe than sorry...Just my .02 cents.

It looks like a legitimate photo. As has been said, you can't approach the seller if you are sent sometlhing other than the one listed. Seems odd that bidding starts at $4800 but you can buy-it-now for $4900.

AUD $4900 is about $4150 US;

Shipping and insurance from AUS can drive the cost up quite a bit. Then, if marked as a Rolex, import taxes need to be added as well.

Could end up costing almost as much as a new one.
