Any Comment of Rolex Thunderbird 1625
This is what I get from the website:
The Rolex Thunderbird 1625 was launched in 1956 as the Datejust Turnograph and was available in 18 k gold only and later available in steel and gold. It featured a revolving milled bezel which according to Rolex’s advertising at the time, would assist public speakers and broadcasters to time their speeches. The name Thunderbird was given to the watch after it’s American launch in 1960 when it appeared in the Rolex USA catalogue with the insignia of the “Thunderbirds”, the US Air Forces elite aerobatic display team. The team took their name from the F84g “Thunderjet” which was the Jet used by the first Thunderbird team, when it was officially activated on June 1st 1953 as the 360th Air Demonstration Team at Luke AFB in Arizona. What do you guys think of this watch? In term of: 1) Appearance/cosmetic/functionality 2) Does RSC keeps spare part (e.g. bezel, dial and etc...) 3) Value of the watch 4) Movement : Rolex 1570 By the way, this is a vintage watch? Rolex still in production? |

1625 is my (most) favorite model and I own one with a snow white dial and 14k/SS jubilee bracelet. No, 1625 is no longer in production but yes, Rolex has replaced it with models 116263 for the TT, and 116264 for the SS. There are a couple of those for sale on eBay right now; their lot numbers are 280126835909 and 281026310445 respectively. 1625 is a non-quick set model so if I let it sit for a week or so, I'll have a very nice time keep turning the hand to re-set the date. The bezel is very difficult to come by.....see my other thread. Yesterday, I saw a supposedly vintage 18K "Thunderbird" bezel up for bid on eBay but later it was cancelled by eBay Officials so I assumed it was a fake. |

The Two Tone Thunderbird is one of my favorite vintage Rolex.
Appearance is classic 40's-50's Art Deco; gorgeous Rolex used to advertise that they kept parts for 30 years, so it is a crap shoot on some parts, but movement parts may be stocked. Value of any product is what they are selling for; not what they are asking for |
