Holy cow! - 13.5% price increase in 5 months

I bought my TT GMTII in December 2010 for 37,000 Qatari riyals.

I just looked at the display in one of the five star hotels near to my apartment when I went to pick up delicatessen for tomorrow's lunch and saw that the price is now 42,000 riyals! That's a 13.5% price increase in 154 days, or 30.0% CAGR!

WOW! Good job that I bought when I did.

And to think my sub has gone up 91% in price in the last 6yrs.

I could sell it , make some money and it would be like getting payed for wearing it.

UPDATE: I went to the same place last week and the price is now 45,150 Qatari riyals.

That is a 22.0% increase in 218 days or 33.3% CAGR!

Unless you bought it second hand for dirt cheap, have box, papers, and a service guarantee for the next year I doubt you could do that.

A 6 year old sub isn't going to command a great price. Just because the MSRP rose radically, doesn't mean that the second hand price rose accordingly. (it did rise though)

My issue is with retailers charging new prices for stock from 2005. But that's an entire issue entirely.

I spoke to my Local AD and he told me that in the US the last increase was more to keep up with the price in the World market due to the week dollar. He did tell me that as of July 15 AD's have been told directly by Rolex to tighten up and not give as much as a discount as previously authorized

2 increases within a year in my country.

Not just Rolex, but Tag Heuer as well.

A huge increase for Omega too.

There will be another one in the US most likely (according to my AD) this year.

Hey Panerai is about to raise their prices 5-10% Aug 1st. Just the way things are in the world today...low USD value.

Will people complain, yes. Will people keep buying, yes.

I hope the US Debt Ceiling impasse is resolved asap... the impact of defaulting would be a jump in the Swiss Franc and thus... ANOTHER Rolex price adjustment!!!

X2. 7 increases in UK in past 12 months.
2 Reasons:
1) CHF stronger against Sterling.
2) Increases of costs in raw materials .

Which is amusing because the raw material cost to produce a Rolex (With exception to the diamond, gold models etc) is ridiculously cheap compared to their asking price..

I honestly have just started getting back to looking and researching Rolex's and I'm so surprised at how prices have gone up in the past 5 years. I want a Sub now and am just shocked at the prices. Oh well. Guess I need to start buttering up the fiance.
