Icon8 Got laughed at yesterday by my AD...

Yesterday I walked into a Mayors AD in my area and asked about getting my watch pressure tested. I was politely told that they do not have a watchmaker at their location. They then gave me the address to another Mayors nearby where they will do the pressure test.

So I arrive at location number two and it went a little something like this...

Sales Rep- "Hi welcome to Mayors. Is there anything I can help you with?"
Me- "Good morning. I'm looking to get my watch pressure tested"
Sales Rep- "What for?"
Me- "Well I recently purchased this preowned watch and I'd like to have it tested before I go in the water with it"
Sales Rep- laughs, calls another sales rep, then says "its a submariner.... Its waterproof"
Me- "I was sent here by another Mayors because you guys have a watchmaker onsite"
Sales Rep- "Submariners are watetproof. You shouldn't have a problem"
Me- "Alright forget it. Have a nice day"
Sales Rep- "I didn't mean to be nasty but..."

Thats all I heard since I was walking away as she said it. Just thought I'd share my recent experience with you guys to see what you think.

Wow that stinks...

I also live in FL and Mayors is the only AD in my area...

Would you mind saying which location you visited so that I can avoid it?

I'd rather drive to a location further away than support bad customer service

My intention wasn't to give Mayors a bad rap. This was just my way of venting. I see you live in the Palm Beach area. I'll just say that this happened at a Mayors in Miami so you are in the clear

Yea I guess that will be my next option. I stopped at Mayors simply because I was already at the mall running some other errands.

Yeah I stopped at a local AD to ask them about a regulation at +15 seconds for the seamaster I just bought & they thought it was a joke Too! What's up with these attitudes?
I will try to find a independent Rolex trained watchmaker who I can trust & most of all appreciates my business.

If there was a leak on the caseback gasket, and your sub became a sunk submarine, they would have said "oh, we thought it was waterproof..."
It is time to chose a good AD, not sockets sellers... Sorry for you. One IMPORTANT thing you should do: You should report it to Rolex USA, in order to protect other rolex owners facing the same situation. (rolex owners solidarity is always a good thing... These are marvellous watches, do not let it become a nightmare because of bad ADs.)

Write a good old letter......Rolex is old school......make it long, express
your likes, dislikes....disgust etc. & send, via certified mail, one copy to Rolex USA/N.Y.C.
& one to their HQ in Geneva....it's a little work & will cost postage, but it
would be interesting to see if they respond to you?
Lucky I have a good watchmaker as I only deal w/ the trusted TRF sellers:
who are smart, very nice, polite, professional, knowledgeable & good looking.

I think this just shows that many Rolex watches have become commodities, rather than tools. The ADs don't know how to respond, because, most likely, people aren't bringing them in with these questions/requests. My local AD does not have a watchmaker on staff and when I made a similar request, it was suggested that I send it to Rolex for service (which was overdue anyway).

By the way, try taking your camera into the mall photo store and ask for help with service.

Typical of a delaer who just wants to glom onto the money to be made by selling Rolexes, but don't want to bother with any of the education or responsibility that goes with selling a high-quality product. Ignore them to death.

Sorry to hear about this. My AD has an on-site tech, who is Rolex trained. Nothing is too much trouble for them. They are, however, a small family owned business, and they regard customer satisfaction as a top priority. Rare these days. They gave my Sub a full service inc. pressure testing, and a polish. It came back as good as new, and only took 3 weeks. Re: the letter to Rolex HQ, I think it is a good idea. They need to know about sub-standard AD's.

Next time ask for the watchmaker... He/she will know what you want and take care of you..

You can't really expect the sales staff to know as much about Rolex as they do anything else that the Jewelry Store carries... Rolex is not likely their main bread-and-butter..
