does playing golf damage your rolex?

i have recently started playing golf, and im a bit worried that the shocks that a watch could endure might damage the movement. tia

If you are wearing a 1974 air king then maybe the older styles do not have adequate shock protection?? Or are you talking about a newer style?

Nope.. plenty of players wear them.. I guess if the golf ball goes back at you and hits the sapphire crystal.. that is another story..

I would not be worried at all wearing any modern Rolex while playing golf or other sports..

It is only safe if you use this type of balls... they would never hit your watch back...

Agreed. I'm an avid golfer and never wear a watch, I see players wearing watches all the time, even the pro's. I don't see how that can feel great on the wrist with a watch jumbling all over the place.

Unless the watch is strapped to face of the club, I can't imagine ANY risk at all to the watch. You've got a lot of cushioning between the ball and the watch.

Just because something is "expensive" doesn't mean it's fragile or needs to be babied.

I always wear mine when i play golf. The only problem I have is I somehow manage to bang my watch around getting the clubs in and out the bag.

I agree golf should be no problem, but there are a number of sports that specifically prohibit any type of jewelry (including watches) in competitive games . . . in some sports it's a penalty, in others referees just check before the game starts and make players remove any jewelry.

Yup.. that is why Cristiano Ronaldo can not wear his black dial Daytona when he plays soccer....watch could injure some of the other players...during the game...

Nope but it does tend to damage my self-esteem, and eventually my liver.

I wore a Datejust hitting balls on the practice range and playing rounds on the course. Nothing adverse happened.

My playing partners take them off and fastened them on their belts (I would be more wary dropping/losing it this way) rather than leave them in the clubhouse lockers or inside a a golf bag left unattended.

Your watch should be fine-it may just be a bit uncomfortable with constant wrist motion.

I am a professional golf ball tester and find wearing my watch and wedding ring uncomfortable.
For that reason, I remove them.
I keep them on for every other activity.

Movement can easily handle it....after 10 years of hitting 20,000 shots the bracelet might be stretched out a touch.

For what it's worth, my friend got a TT Sub as a graduation gift and has been wearing his golfing for the last 10+ years. He has never even sent it in for service, and it's still running perfect.

I never wore a watch for years playing golf, but just this winter I picked up my first Rolex. I've been wearing it golfing so far this year, and don't notice it. Here is mine on the course:

Yeh, too bad - he'd look sharp with the Daytona on the field . . . on the other hand, if I were out there, I wouldn't want to get hit in the head with it!

The Omega official website says their watches are shock-resistant to 5000g, so I would assume Rolex is about the same.

5000g's is a lot.....like dropping your watch from 6 feet on solid rock.

Sure there is a lot of force at the head of the club, but to dissapate that force you have:

1. the aluminum shaft

2. the rubber grip

3. muscles and body fluids of your hands and wrist

4. the small amount of space between the bracelet & wrist


I think playing golf will not damage your Rolex.
