A good pedigree, classic looks, great lume, lug holes, 300m rating.....a full figured watch for all you big watch guys....it has that "je ne sais quoi curmudgeon look"
Who knows how long Seiko will make it........*note: the Grand Seiko dive watches are only 200m rated, seems odd for a high end dive watch?????
Most probably they wanted to keep the crystal and the caseback thin so that the watch be 'Grand' Seiko 'like' but still be capable of 200m WR....

Apart from the fact that it could definitely be pressurized to 300m if you wanted too (Seiko are very conservative) probably 99.5% of divers do not dive deeper than 60m...

Nonetheless, 200m is IMO adequate for all but deep diving. WR and BAR ratings always need to be taken with a grain of salt. Many watches rated for 30 to 50m, wow that's over 150 feet deep! can't even safely go down 6 feet in a pool. And perhaps, like the Iwc, one rated to 120m can safely go down a full 120m plus the additional 25% required for a diving rating.

I am not a diver..........but if I am spending big bucks on a high end dive watch I want it to be rated for the deepest.....strapped-on-the-Trieste-to-the-bottom-of-the-Marianas-Trench-deep!
The Ferraris & Porsches & other exotic cars I see here on the road are not driven reaaallll fast, it's just nice to know for the bucks spent one gets the max.
p.s. in the shallow end of the pool I will wear a 100-200m rated dive watch..... but in the deep end, 300m minimum.....one can never be too careful, or too prepared

In my honest opinion (which some might not appreciate) I think the people behind the inflated lugs are utterly insane. Was there even a problem with the old lugs being too girly and in need of more masculine, muscular proportions? No other popular men's watches have taken this direction with the lug size. I really don't wonder why.

I've heard that about Californians. But I suppose long as you don't go past 2-3 meters it's ok, though not recommended. You must be made of money.

Food for thought:

Innovator - An innovator or pioneer (pronounced /ˌpaɪ.əˈnɪər/) in a general sense, is a person or an organization who is one of the first to do something and often opens up a new area for others and achieves an innovation.

How true, I remember when Mercedes went from the classic rounded design to a sleeker, bolder more angular look, reactions were often just like we're seeing with the Sub, that new design soon started seeing an awful lot of copycats. It's now seen as classic and refined. The new style wasn't only looks too, aerodynamics, an important thing for several reasons, was enhanced. There will always be purists, and also those who like newer, more advanced versions. Methinks the average Rolex buyer has no idea what a supercase is, or what lugs are for that matter, and couldn't tell the Subs apart.

It's kind of the vintage vs modern thing, personally I can't imagine being happy with an old Sub with non functioning Lume, oxidized hands and a faded insert and dial. That's not to say I don't get it, I do, I just don't want it. I appreciate nostalgia and the willingness to do without newer, better versions in exchange for a connection with the past and a certain aesthetic, ie. vintage, I collect several things that are very old and do that for me, but in a watch I choose function over nostalgia. And I have no doubt the new Sub is the better made, more functional watch, despite the epidemic of the 2 chipped ceramic bezels. :)

Vintage is for many, just not for me. :)

That's why my vintage collection aquatimer is a great watch for me, I get the best of both worlds. A modern top quality watch, but with a vintage design. I do realize this makes me a vintage poser. :)

See, I do like the old, vintage look, I'm just not willing to accept the tradeoff.

Exactly my thoughts...I want to have my modern watches grow vintage with me...cracked dials, rusty hands, chipped lume and scratched crystals are not for me...though i can understand the appeal they have for some...

Ps: That vintage collection IWC is hotter than Adriana Lima (ok maybe not that hot )...

I love the hands, dial and Albert Pellaton's winding system ...

Now do I get a couple pics

Stretching it somewhat to describe the newer case shape as innovative. It's just like the old one, same depth rating etc., only slightly different size and proportions.

Non-maxi Rollies have definitely been appreciating in the secondary market.

Not because the prices for new have been steadily increasing?

I think most of those who have the old case will prefer it because it's what they have. Those who have the new case will prefer it because it's what they have.

There are exceptions, but people tend to defend what's on their wrist.

Probably true in a lot of cases.

However, some on here have both, but still prefer one or the other.

I bought my 14060m when I had the choice of the new ceramic maxi case Subs and GMTs. Money wasn't a deciding factor, for once I got lucky and preferred the cheaper one!

That's backwards. People tend to buy what they like. That's how it got to be on their wrist.

Agree that people buy what they like, but many purchased their Subs or GMTs before the maxi case was available.

i want my watch to get old with me. i completely understand that people have affection towards their watches and not changing them when a new one comes out.

and i still dig that vintage aquatimer.

Thanks, me too, trouble is, I can't seem to get the Sub-C off my wrist to wear it, the Sub is like the creature in Alien attached to the guy's face, it won't let go. If you do it by force you can die.

Yes..thats what happond to me...instead of defending what I had..I sold it and got what I wanted..
But ofcourse there will always be Rolex lovers who specifically like the older style..very understandable...In the end they are both great... just different...
