I'm alway amazed by the "I'm waiting for a Daytona...

from my AD. The list is X years long". I bought one (SS BNIB, albeit at full MSRP) within 24 hours from one of the trusted sellers on this board. What is the compulsion about searching/waiting for years for an AD?

Hello Rick
Hope you're still enjoying your daytona
3 years back that was impossible to do, they really had a waiting list...
and now starting about 2 months ago it's getting back that same way...
the Market is getting tight again and with fewer watches to buy and higher prices to pay...
So you did good when you got your.

I'm not sure I see the real point in this thread.. Some Dealers still have waiting lists; mine does, although not as long as it used to be..

It's great that you got yours, and chose to buy outside the Dealer network, but some people do like to buy from Authorized Dealers.. All Rolex watches had to be there at one time or another....

We are the minority!!

If they're so easy to sell at full price I'd like to know why any AD would give up their stock to a gray dealer.

X2.

Unless one carries the same passion (or sickness) that we have, the only avenue to a Rolex is the AD.

Cash, today, below full price, rather than a retail sale at full price next month or the month after.

Or...

"_____ just don't move in my market, buy three of them from from me and I'll let you buy one SS Daytona". Something that a trusted seller will jump upon, but a retail customer likely would not.

Good for you, but it's not always possible, especially across continents, but enjoy your watch.

If there are in fact years-long waiting lists I can't see the first alternative happening, but the second makes sense.

I'm always amazed at the I'm waiting for a Daytona at all, my AD has 2 SS sitting in his window, I thought they were supposed to be this never-seen rarity.

Some prefer to purchase from an AD... I did but finally gave up and went with a trusted TRF seller. I'm super happy with my purchase but I still would have prefered to go the AD route

Never seen an SS one in a UK AD.

Some people want the AD experience and peace of mind for such an important purchase.

Correction " I'm waiting fo a SS daytona."

The T/T model are easier to obtain than the SS model. My local AD had me believing I had to wait 6 months for one but after waiting a week I got my smart hat on and called another jeweler about 30mins away and got it .

My wait= 30 mins.

True, but I'm not sure the corn-buying population is comparable to the Rolex-buying population.

I personally only ever buy from an AD. Just the way I have always been, it feels more "official" if you like. I'm waiting for a daytona also

RickinAZ,

So, if something were to go wrong with you watch, will your trusty seller fix it for free and does he have a Rolex parts account??

I would wait a few months longer for a watch from an AD knowing that I have a 3yr warrantee. Wouldnt you?

Depends on the $ saved buying from a non-AD source. First off, I love how everyone jumps on the bandwagon of, "When the watch breaks...". I've owned 5 Rolex's over many years, beat the hell out of each one & never had an issue. Even if I did have a major issue, all I would do is send it in & pay the price to fix it.

Hell...a complete 5 yr service replaces worn/damaged parts, lubes & regulates everything to factory fresh & refurbishes the case & bracelet to look like new...heck, you would be hard pressed to tell the difference from new, and it all costs around $1K. If I can save anywhere from $1500-$3000 to buy from a non-AD source and 'Roll the Dice' on a possible repair in the first 3 yrs of ownership, it's a no-brainer. You'll still come out ahead.

We're not talking Fords from the 80's here...warranties & 'no cost repair' more than likely will be used more for selling gimmicks than actual real-world use. In general, a modern day Rolex is one of the few purchases I'm not too concerned with not having a warranty.

Well.., buy a few other non selling examples under MSRP (30%) at a dealer who is on the break of a bonus (493 instead of 501 pieces in week 52)
You'll get the Daytona on a discount.

Around here : buy a DD at 90% , yoú can buy one now at MSRP.

I'm not talking about the sweet talk the salemans gives you. It's about having peace of mind with your purcahse.

My first serious watch a breitling colt had a knick on one of the lugs. How I missed it in the shop I dunno. Was taken in by how shiny it was, and was an inexperieced buyer. When I took it back couple days later. They changed it for another.

And believe it or not when I got my speedy, I had an issue with the chrono, sticking and a bit jerky. Yes I'm very fussy. Again took it back and they swapped it.

I know I sound a bit of a muppet and should of spotted this in the shop.

Last 3 times I was at my AD there were white and black SS Daytonas sitting in the case and the owner told me there were several more in the safe. He also mentioned it has never been a problem for him to order a Daytona (and have it soon) whenever he needs.

I'm as capable of sending it to the RSC as any AD is.

The most extreme downside to this approach, in the extremely unlikely event that service is required AND warranty denied, is:

"Ha! You had to wait a month for it to come back from the RSC and pay them $500. While I had mine serviced quickly, free, because I paid $1k-$2k more and/or waited two months for it to come in. Oh, gee... when you say it THAT way..."

Add in the fact that it ain't gonna happen 99 times out of a 100, and you see why trusted sellers move so many watches.

I think this has mostly to do with the type of buyer.

I know how to treat and take care of my watches - so of the 10 Rolexes I've bought, none have come from an AD... and I've never has a single problem with any of them.

My dad... bought him a Kindle - broken in 2 weeks. I bought his Rolex at an AD.

Almost like Apple Care... I never buy it. Never had any problems with any Apple product. But with my sister, she'll destroy 3 MacBook Pro's a year in the most bizarre ways... I always get her Apple Care.
