I need your advice...
I'm leaving for Greece tomorrow to visit family I haven't seen for over 20 years. As I was packing tonite my wife asked me what watch I was going to wear. We all know what tough times Greece is going through economically and my family is from a small village in Macedonia and they never had much money to begin with. I wasn't planning on wearing my Rolexes but thought I would wear my new Pam 320 GMT. I was actually looking forward to using the GMT feature. I figured Panerai would be a little more under the radar although it IS a very fancy looking watch. Should I just wear one of my less expensive watches? Would it be in bad taste to show up in the village wearing a watch that costs more than they make in a year?

I would wear what I liked. However, I am not intimately familiar with Greece or the safety of the country (of course, I have followed the economic crisis and the riots, news, etc.). Having said that, I think too many get caught up in the negative stereotypes of a country. Whenever I have visited most places (some considered dangerous) in the world, I have generally found the people warming and welcoming--not looking to snake my Rolex.

You should wear what you like but if you think that you may feel uncomfortable then take one of your cheapest watches and leave the good stuff safe at home, enjoy your trip…
