Good on you!!! it is a hard thing to do but stick with it you can do it man!! I am now six months without a cigarette although I do smoke cigars here and there. That will be a summer thing mostly because I am not sitting on the porch in two degree weather for a cigar Good Luck and keep with it

It sounds like you are ready to quit, and have made the decision for yourself.

My dad smoked a pipe (tobacco) for years and years. On my mother's 50th birthday, he asked her what she wanted as a gift, and she said to quit smoking. He put it down, and 33 1/2 years later hasn't touched one since.

I know the pipe is not as addicting as cigarettes, but it's still got to be tough to do.

So I think right about now I've probably got no nicotine in my system, and in another 3 weeks or so the lil' monster will be taking a dirt nap.

So what have I noticed so far? My sense of smell is *much* better. Driving to work with the window down was an entirely new experience... even passing the pig farm was OK. The only downside so far is some nasal drip, but I think that's just my body healing.

Well, I won't post every day, but I'll drop a note in a month or so!
Your food probably tastes better too, as a result of your improved smell and lack of cigarette taste in your mouth.

Whoever said there would be bumps is right. Nothing like having a tough craving while driving. I'm still smoke free of course and will remain so, but I ripped the shifter knob off my m5 during some ... spirited driving.

I smoked forever and I too got bladder cancer. The number one risk factor for bladder cancer is cigarette smoking.

Beat it, but the urge to smoke still pops up. Especially when having a drink or a cup of coffee. I am doing good though. Hate cigarettes. They are poison.

Hey Chris,I don't even know you and I am proud of you.
You should quit smoking for your health, your kids and then put the money you save away towards a new Rolex. Good Luck,I know you can do it !!

I quit smoking in 2004, saved the money for each pack I would have smoked for about 2 years which equals a Sub-date.
Result : I am healthier and have a nice watch.

The hardest parts of quitting was to handle all the situations where one normally smoke. Coffebreak, after some beers, clubbing, parties etc.
So I avoided these situations for a long time.

Good luck Chris, I know you can do it !!

You can do whatever you want....

I gave up smoking last October, cold turkey, after 40 years @ 30 a day, having started at school when I was 13 years old.

My inspiration ....... was to live a part of my life without my body being invaded by nicotine, CO2 etc. I wanted to feel what it was like being a non smoker before I died.

For me patches for a week (and some brilliant dreams!)....it really is all in the mind..you can do it.

Definitely better Chris, breathing is easier, sleeping better, less respiratory congestion and around $6000 per year richer.......

Started Day 8 today. Day 5 was probably the toughest, lots of cravings. I had a nightmare last night that I was smoking again. I woke up and was hollering' "no no no!".

Best advice so far is to time the cravings; they seem to last forever but really you just have to suck it up for a few minutes then are good to go.

Chris, I sincerely wish you all the strength and success. I have never been a smoker, but hear it is the toughest addiction to break. I have seen the effects on my family and freinds and am sickened by what that does to you. Good on you man and keep at it!

I wish you all the luck.

Myself stops after 28 years with 50 cigarettes every day for nearly 7 years ago.

For me it was easy but my wife have attempted with no luck.

Chris, I feel your pain. I smoked 1.5 packs/day for almost 20 years. I've been off them for about 13 years and like you it was my kids that motivated me.

Try drinking a half glass of water when you get cravings. I don't know why but it helped them pass for me.

Good job. Keep it up.

I honestly never wanted to quit smoking, but told myself I would quit if I ever had kids. So when we found out my wife was pregnant, my fate was sealed. I had some slip ups during the pregnancy. Thinking I could have just one cigarette when having drinks with friends. One was never enough.

I quit for good a month or so before our daughter was born. Been 5 months and still going strong. Still some cravings every now but nowhere near as frequent as before. I thank god every day that I'm still resisting because I want so badly to give her a good life and to be able to do everything she wants to do.

I was going to suggest the same! It prevents you for gaining weight as well!

I quit smoking 8 years ago, and gained 25lbs within the first year after! I'm still trying to loose them, but I don't regret quitting at all!!
You did good by telling the world! It makes you want to prove to us all that you can do it! Well done!

15 days smoke free now, $75 extra in my pocket.

A work colleague bought me lunch last week, and another is lined up for this week and another at one month. Some motivation there, not just the free lunch, but the fact they are rooting for me.

It's easier than week one, no *extreme* urges, a few mild ones. I am munching on a lot of sunflower seeds now though. I know I will never smoke again on a conscious level, and I'm hoping my subconscious will give up the fight to smoke shortly. I guess 24 years makes it a bit tough.

Good job Chris...

Its really a commitment like for anything else...

When you decide your finished, your finished and all that crap that 'enters' your thoughts is all psychosomatic, 'its all in your head,' and your mind has the power to turn that crap off. Its a powerful resource and you will master its use...

Just think of this too, when you've quit for a year, I think you can reward yourself witha new 'vintage' ROLEX ~ !
