And, although I'm certain the money argument gets old for Yankees fans, the truth is the Bombers are open to it as long as baseball has such an unlevel playing field. I would love to see more parity in baseball, much like the NFL where teams continually emerge and compete when just a few years ago they might have been in the cellar. |

So 2 rings in a decade means they turned a corner?
I don't think so. The only record they have ever broken is an 80 yr losing streak. Sox fans love to whine about the Yanks. Even if they make it this yr the Phillies will give them a spanking!

guys, have you been following the season? the biggest division lead is about 5 games (phillies - and that's thanks to an historic rotation). the other five divisions have leads of less than 3 games....first time since 1994 it's this close this late. almost 20 out of 30 temas are either leading a divsion or within 6 games of a playoff spot. that's parity! |

Angels fan, but I admit I'm more of a fair-weather baseball fan because of recent changes in the sport. The numbers in baseball used to be interesting, as it allowed for general comparisons between generations. Sure there were years with a juiced-up ball or other anomalies; however, in general it was interesting to see how the old players compared to the new, Bob Gibson to Randy Johnson.
Steroids changed everything. But of course, I--like most of the U.S.--was cheering right along when McGuire and Sosa were having their epic battles. And watching Bonds hit juiced . . . almost not fair. In fact, it wasn't fair. I used to go to Pirates games when his head was normal size. Then it expanded like he was injected with helium from the roids. Sadly, many baseball fans no longer just "go to a game." They seem to only go when their team is in the chase or winning. When I was a kid, it was just great to go with dad or friends, get a dog and a soda, and watch the game--win or lose. Now it's all changed. And, of course, prohibitive ticket prices haven't helped either. |

When I was in grad school in DC in the late 90s and early 00s I would go to the Baltimore games all the time and could go for 5 bucks. It was literally 5 dollars for the bleacher seats. Those prices just don't exist anymore. Plus the food prices were not that outrageous. |

OH Jeez...what happened??? The franchise is going backward...pitching is a joke...AJ??? at 16 per and Bartolo Colon??? what a joke....Cashman...spent 1B thats right, folks.....a BILLLION since he took over the GM job and has 1 WS.....awful! Here is a fact: RS are increasing in value and talent while the Spankees and their stupid Band Box of a ball park are tanking like a tech stock in 2000.... Without Texeira the line up is middle of the road at best.

NY pitching a joke? Chowderhead pitching was supposed to be their claim to fame this year. You only have 2 that are throwing well. Beckett and Lester, thats it! Lackey gets lumped everytime he touches the ball. Your pouty closer has an ERA over 4 and nobody else does much. Money well spent.
NY always finishes strong. A trade or two at the deadline then kick it in OD for the penant race. Right now, Almost neck and neck at the break, I look forward to the second half of the season. I expect the Yankees to take the East. You guys think otherwise, we shall see. |

CC-Legit AJ- Enough said Colon- I will not comment ???- Who is number 4?? Nice job on Joba. That kid is good/will be great. Too bad Cashman and the Sons screwed the guy up. Who has 'rules' for new pitcher...absurd! Mo- he's the man. No doubt about it. A class and nice stuff. Let's see: Lester Beckett Wake Buccholz Miller-Young better than anyone else the Yankees have besides CC Dice-K...no comment JP closing- His schtick wears on me but he is consistent. There is no comparison in the staff. The lineups are another story.

AJ Burnett is actually having a decent season this year. He was terrible last year but he has an 8-7 record with a 4.12 ERA but more importantly he has pitched late into most games. You make fun of Colon all you want but he has a better ERA than everyone on the Redsox except for Beckett with a 6-4 record. His last outing wasn't good but he was coming off the DL. Before the DL he had gone 4-0 with an ERA of 1.1 in his last four starts. The Yankees have this young pitcher named Nova who has been awesome for a young pitcher. 8-4 record for us. He is legit. Our 5th starter has been Garcia and he has been adequate enough with a 7-6 record with 3.13 ERA but hopefully Hughes can right the ship and be back in the line-up as a legit pitcher. Now Boston is a mess. Yes Beckett is off the hook and Lester was picthing well as well but he is now on the DL so who knows what he will be like when he returns. Bucholz was playing well but is also on the DL. Andrew Miler has pitched 4 games for Boston and he was terrible before signing with Boston. I doubt it will last and he is certainly not better than every other pitcher on the Yankees. His ERA is hovering around 3.57. Garcia has a beter ERA. And don't even mention Wakefield. The guy is washed up especially when he plays AL teams who have been him multiple times. His ERA is hoovering around 4.57. I really don't see how you can say Boston pitching is so superior. It just isn't plain and simple. |
