Well one of the first signs of any mechanical watch getting magnetised it will run very very erratic, in general speed up.Now the erratic timekeeping could be quite a few seconds or even minutes gain or come to a complete stop and refuse to start.But myself worked in the steel industry for many years working with and around very powerful magnets never had a problem.Now work and repair around power transceivers that produce quite a strong magnetic field again never had a problem with any mechanical watch I was wearing.And today most Swiss watches including Rolex have to pass the Swiss standard test for anti-magnetic mechanical watches . They must be able to withstand a strong magnetic field of 4800 Amps per meter,and to keeps on running with a maximum deviation of 15- 30 seconds per day.Now this test I am 100% sure that 90% of all watch wearers would never subject or come into contact with such a strong magnetic field.

To test a watch to see if its magnatized or not, just use a compass. Pass the watch across the compass, if it pulls the needle you have a magnatized watch.
